Re: OFCOMS Report

I've just had another look at the requirements:
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/signup/ofcom/requirements
and it says the units download 2GB and upload 2GB per month. As previously stated, though, some of this is at night and wouldn't count against the 10GB Value allowance. I generally use less than 4GB per month, so I might give it a whirl.

In FTTC, copper runs from the cabinet to your house, it is this distance that determines your speed. I just placed an order for a customer who is moving from 2.5Mbps on ADSL2+ to an estimated 35.1Mbps on FTTC because they're a long distance from the exchange but not from the cabinet.

Ah I see. So there's hope for me yet! I guess myself and the person I was talking to yesterday about it were both right - the fibre won't lose any significant speeds, but the copper from the cabinet to the house will still have some effect. Still, you can't complain when you've gone from 2.5 to 35Mbps. I'd kill for that kind of speed. Cheesy

Dom Just because you dont understand the ways ADSL work, dont blame PN

but what are you wining about?

I've neither blamed Plusnet for anything (or mentioned them specifically at all in this thread) nor have I whined about anything. In fact, I've agreed with what Plusnet have said on a couple of points. How that constitutes "blaming them" or "whining" is beyond me. Still, think what you want, just as I will. And I think you're just trying to wind me up.

Re: OFCOMS Report

As pierre_pierre says one filled in a questionaire and it was then decided if one was suitable for the trial.
I notice that p_p mentions a Netgear whereas the one sent to me was a Linksys WRT160NL. They are modified and one still uses ones own wireless link.
Like p_p I'm on Value but have spare bandwidth. As it uses 24Mb per day of free usage I'm assuming it uses about 48Mb of paid for usage.

Re: OFCOMS Report

yes it probably is a Linksys, its out of site out of mind, I havnt been away for a long period since mine was installed, will be soon, so will be able to see roughly how much it uses, I am often on from 06:30 and forget to look at used Mb when I log on

Re: OFCOMS Report

OK - I've now registered with Samknows and no doubt I'll be told in due course if I've been accepted.
