Heh, if you only manage to rack up 13Gb a month, I wouldn't call that a lot.

You must have missed the screenshot, 13Gb peak, 147Gb off peak for a total of 160Gb/month and only *just* going on to level 1 management.  Also because I'm nice I let my next door neighbour use my wi-fi connection to download updates and what-not.  My niece comes to visit twice a week and will spend hours on the laptop using the internet.  I have my PC, PS3, XBox360, Wii, PSP, iPhone, N900, Freeview Box all connected to the internet too.  I would say I use the internet well above average and as I'm at home all day due to illness, I use the internet all day, I can switch it on at 10-11am and be using the internet all day until midnight, 1am, 2am and still keep within my level 1 limit (13Gb).  That's not even including booting into Linux and running updates on that, plus updating both my desktop PC and my laptop.

... How about letting a user switch between profiles - Extra and Pro with separate allowances on each. ...

As I understand it you can 'login' with any PN account on a PN provisioned ADSL line. Technically you could have two accounts; one Pro and one Extra (or Value). Then you could log in to the appropriate one for your activity. Its a bit of a hassle perhaps....
How the business logic would cope with two accounts nominally for the same line I don't know.

I wondered about that. As Plusnet would only be paying BT once for the line, one of the accounts could be significantly discounted.

Again, people assume that gamers only play games, and do nothing else with their line, which is a ridiculous assumption...

Exactly.
BT Infinity for £27.99 including Unlimited Broadband and anytime phone calls is surprisingly attractive even for BT!  Shocked
Plusnet's packages not too long ago were Unlimited, 80GB then 60GB in a relatively short space of time. Why the drop in allowances and more extreme 'shaping'? Allowance is one thing but 'shaping' also has to be included.
Adam, a 4th product? Just one other would be nice - Unlimited but cheaper than BT of course! Smiley

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

I was on Pro but moved to Extra, seeing as Extra has the same priorities and no traffic shaping for gaming and is cheaper its a no brainer.
The only real benefit of Pro is that P2P is not traffic shaped but tbh you're not going to be doing a lot of P2P on a 20gb package, but with extra I can P2p during the day while Im at work and get a nice 400-500kbs DL...
I explained this to a colleague a few weeks ago, he called PN to ask them why he was paying more for Pro on this basis at the CSA simply told him he's right and should switch to Extra. You have to wonder what Pros all about... Targeted at gamers, yet extra caters just as well, is cheaper and has 40gb a month extra which is much needed when most DLCs now days are between 500-1500MB.

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

For gamers the difference is if they play obscure or new versions of games that are not recognised by the traffic management. On anything but Pro they'll likely be in the silver queue.

Most gamers either play WoW, EVE or the other top MMOs, or play on platforms like Steam, Sony Station, Xbox live or PSN (edit) All of which are known by PN... sorry but I do think you're grasping at straws there and besides PN have procedures in place for people to report such problems.

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

Exactly. If you play a game that isn't "on the list" it's easy enough to get Plusnet to add it. I did it for Star Trek Online and it works a treat.

No, P2P is just one shaped TOS

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

One thing to note too, some people complaining about the 20Gb limit on Pro are actually on the FTTC/FTTH trials so are getting 40Mb/100Mb second download speeds and not typical ADSL speeds of up to 8/24Mb.  Hopefully PN will fire up a FTTx product soon to suit the fibre users.

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

More importantly, we hope PN will massively increase the monthly cap on FTTx products, or else it's a bit pointless having them.

Re: Plusnet Pro? Satisfactory GB Or Not Enough? Poll

They probably will increase the allowances - but the FTTC products will also cost more than the standard non-fibre products.

Aye, well it's to be expected. I'd gladly pay £30+ per month for fibre.
