I thought it was up to 7 PCs.
On the PC I had to remove it from, I've slapped AVG 2011 on and it's now running a full scan (god knows when it will finish). Now I need to check out the other PCs in the house before their owners get home

That was a comment about the impact on our customers in general, I was in no means playing down the effect on you as an individual.
Quote you think its a minor issue
We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you, please try reinstalling everything should be fine from there.
Adam.

Quote from: CharlieSmirke ... I haven't known for almost 24 hours now wether or not my pc is protected...
You're unlikely to be vulnerable to any nasties anyway to be honest. Unless you regularly visit sites you don't know, or visit as many porn sites as you can find, then you're highly unlikely to run into any troubles. Especially if it's only been 24 hours. In fact, after 24 hours, if there's a virus out there that you're not protected from, it'd take longer than that for your AV suppliers to come up with a new definition to protect you anyway.
The PN team might not be able to "play down" your problem for PR reasons or whatever, but I can, and at this point you're worrying about nothing. I don't think you'll pick up a virus that you're not already protected from, and any viruses etc that have been made since your AV last updated could affect you regardless of whether you have the latest definitions anyway.
But like I mentioned on the first page, if you're that worried about it, try Microsoft Security Essentials. I've heard nothing but good things, and have used it myself for yonks.

That really isn't too accurate. All the modern AntiVirus solutions use a variety of techniques to check for viruses and signatures are no longer the only part of the protection - heuristics are coming much more to the fore.

Frankly if the anti virus is totally disabled and not just stopped downloading updates I would be very concerned although, as you say, if you stayed clear of dodgy sites he may well get away with it.
However the first thing to do is a full scan to pick up any potential nasties
BUT - the fact that the first you knew about the cancellation is the email then you were almost certainly still protected otherwise the Windows Security warning would have leapt into action and warned you that your anti virus is disabled
