Re: Plusnet Total useless

No - It's a Thomson TG585v7 with a single antenna.
I've just checked with a couple people around me and they feel that your setup should work perfectly fine.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

I did post a reply but it logged out again and i lost all of the message.
Worth a try mate, would i use the same setup on the Thompson , dmz outside the dhcp and upnp disabled ?
The thompson worked great on o2, although i seem to remember having to leave UPNP enabled on that one when i portforwaded., the belkin i had to have UPNP disabled when portforwading.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Apparently, if you have the PS3 in the DMZ, you shouldn't need to have UPNP enabled.
But it wouldn't hurt trying both Smiley

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Will do mate, ill leave it as you said and if there are problems ill try enabling it aswell.
I noticed that when i port forwaded that port 80 is used alredy by something and it has to be moved to 8080,  if i put it in the DMZ then port 80 is for psn network for coms i think and if this port isnt allocated in portforwading wouldnt it be getting used by something else hence causing a problem online.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Port 80 is the standard port for http: (i.e. web browsing).  Port 8080 is the alternative http: port.
See here for a list of standard port allocations.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

So are these ports the same on a pc than with the ps3 then ?
Dont understand much about ports exept the ones to open for the PS network and for games.
Its very complicated this network stuff.
thanks for the link im sure it may be usefull in finding what port is for what application. My only concern is that i have no port conflicting issue while im in the ps3 is in the DMZ.
The ports i need opening are :
                                TCP :  80 - 443 - 5223
                                UDP : 3074-3075 -3478-3658-3479
                                UDP/TCP : 28960
                                UDP range : 10070
                                TCP range : 10070 to 10080
TCP : 9293  (if the router doeant support UPNP)
Unless i use the DMZ which i think opens all ports so no need to portforward unless there is a conflict with a port which in that case id imagine you need to port forward.
Any advise would be great

Re: Plusnet Total useless

From what I've read, there should be no need to port forward if the PS3 is in the DMZ.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Yeah mate, ive read that too, some guys in forums swear by DMZ while others have other setup types.
Some just use the UPNP only and have no issues. Im sure it will all depend how busy the network is at the end of the day as to what causes the most lag.
I will try what you have suggested a see, if i can get a good connection then ill post it for future refrence for guys who have similar issues.
What works for me might not work for someone else and visa versa, but some advise is better than none for them.
Out of curiosity is there any other methods you can use to improve my ping and upload without the download suffering. as my download at its best is 3.3 to the PS3 and couldnt afford to loose any more. O2 used to adjust noise margin but your download would suffer because of this.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Yep, changing the noise margin would cause changed in sync speed, but that shouldn't affect latency.
There isn't really anything that we can do outside the interleaving change as a quick win.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Ok mate thought id ask anyway. I will get back to you later on tonight and let you know how ive got on, will give it a good go and try loads of servers just to be sure.
Thanks for the help again. Ill try to stay positive about it, as i agree with you that the DMZ option should in theory be the best way to connect, i may just leave it like that for a few days and see what happens. Cos if i can rule out setup issues than it must be somthing else, and before anyone comments on me being crap at gaming ,Dont bother ive already concidered that option and dismissed it as my stats with a good connection are great. Im not just my stats, lol

Re: Plusnet Total useless

No mate but it looks like something i may be willing to try if all else fails.
I have been seeking help from the net and found this :  http://azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs#United_Kingdom
Can you tell me if this is true for the pro package i have or not  ?

If this is true would it still happen on the package down from pro, If this does happen on my package but doesnt happen on the package below can you put me on that package then please.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Looking at that list it doesn't appear to be applicable to the Pro product at all.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

Ive seen the table provided on your website stating that the pro package has no restrictions but ive read that some isp's are being blocked from accessing certain sites, as well as P2P (peer-to-peer) services, during certain times of the day .

Can you find out if this is true or not  officially for me ?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Plusnet Total useless

We don't block specific sites, apart from those covered on the IWF list (namely terrorism, child pornography etc).
What we do do is to prioritise traffic and impose rate limitations on speed depending on the time of day.  This does not happen on Pro.
