Re: So much negativity... Was my instinct wrong?

Being seen to be communicating with the supplier and getting regular feedback, even if progress wasn't made, is fine.
It's when there are protracted delays in faults even being looked at and passed on to BT that people get upset.
Waiting a couple of days to then be asked to confirm if you've tried the test socket followed by another long wait after you answer is not good service.

Re: So much negativity... Was my instinct wrong?

I've been with PlusNet since 2003 (was previously with AOL but they couldn't support Broadband for Macs at that time). They've been excellent except for the Billing dept, which is a mystery to me! There's nearly always a problem when more than one discount needs applying. I would have recommended PN unreservedly except for this.

I think they are the only ISP that makes a genuine and meaningful effort to engage their user base via these forums,

There are others, to be fair.
But we all know the ones that don't...... Roll_eyes

So much negativity... Was my instinct wrong?

Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves  Cool
I have been with Force9 Plusnet about five years and it has been a relatively trouble free experience. The occasional problem I did have I brought the forum and got things resolved quickly.
Support from Sheffield has been  mostly good but I won't deal with the subcontracted Indian CS in Durban as they don't understand English.
I have also had good support from Bob Pullen plusnet on twitter

Re: So much negativity... Was my instinct wrong?

Ticket response needs looking at. I've asked a specific question about my line profile and got the generic "laundry list" for a poor speed problem.
With hindsight MY mistake was assuming a secondhand router would have been factory-reset by the seller. Should learn to follow my own advice.

Only thing i would say is, although they advertise that they are all happy chappy farmers from yorkshire, I haven't spoken to anyone with a yorkshire accent over the phone, for god sake plusnet , atleast put on a yorkshire accent the next time i call!

Mattskills - have you been calling Sheffield or Durban?  A proper Yorkshire accent can be found if you use the first option, although admittedly you do get a smattering of other accents - I even recall an American one a good while back.
I think that in general northern accents are not well thought of and perhaps some of the younger staff might try to disguise this a little (might be wrong though).
Anyway, about Plusnet - connection and speed great.  Only problem has (in the past) been billing. First with Homephone and more recently referrals.
I think that the latter has been sorted but I haven't checked.
Being a 'local' and happy with the service I wouldn't change to another company.
Just had a thought - I know that in the past there has been some to-ing and fro-ing between Durban and Sheffield for training purposes - maybe they could add 'Yorkshire-speak' to the educational agenda!  Roll_eyes
