I've just tried turning on the PPP log - it did force another connect as I suspected. I've PM'd you the log which clearly shows my current realm as plusdsl.

It's a shame that graph stops at around 10:45. Do you have one that covers the period straight after the change?
The period around 9PM is frightening - the green "minimum" times show peaks of over 100ms, which means that all of the pings over 100 seconds have taken that long!
For comparison, here's mine
Edit: Fixed graph to display yesterday's graph (ie 3rd May). The original one started out including last night's data, but it gradually ticked off screen as the day wore on
Looks like the imbalance between pipes was indeed an explanation - and if users are going to have a chance about doing something, Bob is going to need to root through his intray.
And seeing the graphs above, I can't help wondering if Plusnet would be better showing graphs of latency for each pipe, rather than packet-drops.You had horrible latency, but not much packet loss, and the ones that were lost were probably when you took the router down.

The best thing is going to be to compare the graph from this evening for the 6 to 9pm period - I intend to post that.

To give you a taster here's the current graph which shows the change:
I'd normally expect things to get worse at midnight when peoples free downloads start.

Good idea; I can post an equivalent for plain Extra.
Interesting thing on the new graph... I was going to comment (on the original graph) about the fact there was a step change at 21:45. But looking at the new graph, the time the same step happened is marked at 22:45. There's an hour offset between the two sets of labels.Ignore this - you can't see it in the new graph any more, as the latest graph has ticked on, and lost last night's data.
Very nice from midnight onwards though - but mine doesn't show much of an impact from that time either. Perhaps ICMP is queued higher than P2P, but the same as (or lower) than browsing.

I am on 20CN BBYW-opt2, and last night between about 20:00 and 22:00 speeds were noticeably exceptionally poor, unfortunately I did not bother to do any speed measurements as I ended up doing other things at the same time, but browsing was getting to the point where pages were taking tens of seconds to load. This level of dreadful performance is VERY rare on my connection.
However after about 23:00, the linespeed was exceptionally fast, as for years my maximum speedtest results were typically 6520Kbps, but late last night I was getting 6945Kbps - on the same router stats as usual.

Interestingly, I've been monitoring my connection due to an ongoing fault. I'm on Extra with "Pro Plus" and my graph for last night is thus:
Note the sharp rise in latency around 9pm, (no additional traffic on my line at that point). However, ignore the rise in base latency at just after 10pm - it was the daughter kicking off a steam download which lasted until just after 3am.
(oh, and any PN staff - check out the nice little red packet loss spikes. That's what's been happening since Jan 20th. :P)

Here's mine for the next day (the 4th May). Still standalone Pro, but now on thn-ag2. The packet drops just before 4PM was a spoontaneous reboot by the router (not just a resync).
I notice that my graph on the earlier post has adjusted itself (since posting) to just show the 4th May, instead of the "up to 11am" look that it had when I generated it yesterday. I'll go and fix that post, so the conversation stays understandable... I think barry needs to do the same.

My post above does now show the right data.
Tip: If you use Show Previous Days you can use today's date. It will automatically update to show the last 24 hours for the rest of the day, but then at midnight it locks off to just show the selected day. So don't use that link if the interesting bit is the previous evening, you have to use the link for the day before.
