Re: The PlusNet saga - A disappointing tale

I'll keep it in the test port, no reason not to.

Thanks for the heads up on the upload cap, hopefully one day my area will get better internet! In my previous address I had 150mb fibre Sad

Re: The PlusNet saga - A disappointing tale

No problem. To clarify, your line can achieve an estimated upstream speed of 5.9 Mbps to 8 Mbps. it's just that the package you've signed up to is capped at 2 Mbps.

Upgrading to Unlimited Fibre Extra will release the cap and may also improve on your downstream speed, although estimates for that is 31.6 Mbps to 41.6 Mbps.

Still, not as good as 150 Mb. Virgin Media, I take it?

Re: The PlusNet saga - A disappointing tale

Thanks for the useful info - most of my internet activity is streaming TV/movies and playing games via Steam so what I've got is probably good enough.

It was indeed Virgin Media that I had - a friend of mine worked for them so I had the everything package at a much reduced rate.

Is there a way to request better internet for my area? I live in a private estate which is why you can't get things like cable. The estate does have a slush fund that i'd love to convince them to spend on improving the internet infrastructure.

@Anoush,

I've been off the forums for a while so I might have missed a change in policy ... does your answer above imply that PlusNET has changed its policy of not selling higher speed down load options on lines which will not support those higher down load speeds?

This line looks like it is in the margins where (previously?) the 80/20 option would not have been available (to gain better upload speeds) because the line will only support 40 download... irrespective that it can do better than 2M upstream.

Sounds like a pretty nice deal.

Something we wouldn't be able to request of Openreach I'm afraid. I'm about in the same situation at my house, my line is slowly degrading. Down to about 47 Mbps, but it's within the speed estimates too.

A local MP may be able to push Openreach from their direction for a better quality fibre service.

He'll be able to upgrade his package to Unlimited Fibre Extra if you would like to, as the downstream estimates are just above 40 Mbps.

If this drops below, then yeah the package would not show as available. It's essentially just a limitation of our system at the moment.

More to do with the lunacy of not offering the 55/10 option to other users which would be perfect for someone like this!

It's possible that we'll come across the same system limitation if there was a 55/10 package though I wouldn't like to speculate.

Re: The PlusNet saga - A disappointing tale

@Anoush well wouldn't the simple answer be ------ REMOVE the 2mg upload cap ?? especially as people on long lines who cannot get a decent download their upload becomes less than 0.5 upload Sad
