Me and my line manager have just put our heads together to discuss what's going on with your connection and what can be done in terms of that router.
In the interest of drawing your issue to a close (which I'm sure you want) there's a few facts we need to look at and react to.
With regards to the stability of your connection I can see that you've been connected for over 19 days which is something no-one can shake a stick at. In terms of speeds the line currently syncs at 3mb which is above the original estimate we gave you. I can't tell what your personal experience is like but do try a BT speedtest (I know you've had issues in the past with this but I can't see why it wouldn't work now) at http://www.speedtester.bt.com (note the www the one without is different). I obviously can't mention figures but I can see that you are making the most of your account's bandwidth allocation, that leads me to believe that your experience of the speeds can't be bad at present.
With regards to a router, its a no-go I'm afraid I can't offer for us to supply you with any kind of third party hardware (i.e not the models we stock) however I do have an alternate offering and that bring me on to fibre. BT have given a firm date of 30/6/11 for FTTC so if you are still considering using that service I can offer you 3 months for free which on value equates to around £50.
Quote Knock it up a gear!
That is very much happening on a professional, musical and personal basis Hope all is well with you guys.
Speak soon,
Adam

Agreed, ever since they played with the Cab, the line has been in up for 21 days, at least that is what the router says. Throughput is still rubbish - yes bandwidth has been consumed ( 3 re-installs + Netbook ) some downloads, Teamviewer the usual facebook stuff, however still the usual problems, Youtube isn't worth watching unless you go off to make a cup of tea whilst we wait (Beeb iPlayer - play for 7 buffer for 15 play for 7 etc.), a normal download is just dialup-ish, speeds are still poor - which leaves me to believe that most of it is just traffic management. Our usage is normally sporadic, we sometimes get a heavy month, we sometimes don't, depends what's on work wise. Same with the phone line, sometimes we're on a lot, (next month will probably be a heavy phone month, but light on the net (new baby time!)

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 345 / 32,191
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 272 / 315,865
For the uptime quoted, can't complain especially with the amount of exposure, the phone line / service goes through spells of being bad, but again we don't use the phone that much. I'll be honest I've not done the usual checking

Shall consider the fibre offer, not going to hold my breath over these Cab's being dismantled again, by the time we get to June that'll be 8 months since the first given date!
Shame about the router, how's about asking the CEO? Line managers are such small fry these days
Would have thought the amount of patience and goodwill we've had towards Plusnet, along with loyalty might have come to something - keep forgetting about the BT bit though doh! Anyway, BT speed link isn't working, so will try later and post results (I know that quite often the SpeedTest results can be affected by a billion variables - but will give it ago when it's not broken)
Shall post later - cheers Dude!

Its good to see that your line is behaving as intended.
With regards to what you've mentioned about your experience of streaming I know that we do manage youtube speeds to 2.5mb between 8PM and 10PM but bearing in mind that seems to be the maximum speed (or thereabouts) you can achieve anyway the management shouldn't make any difference at all there.
Lets look at some specifics here. Apologies for asking this again but do remind me how many PCs you have (I know its at least a desktop machine and a netbook) and if the performance for streaming is the same on all of them. Best way to do this is to use the same video on all 3, can I recommend that you use this?
Seriously though do try watching the same video on all 3 and let us know what the experience is like. Where as we can't grade our service on this it may be an idea to time how long the video takes to buffer before you've finished viewing it. Whilst your at it try a speed test on each machine too, I'm curious to see if any discrepancies come up. Also I'm sure you would have 'fessed up to this before but you're not viewing HD vids are you?
Quote normal download is just dialup-ish, speeds are still poor -
I'm going to give you a blunt, yes honest answer here, this may just be correct for the package you have, take a gander here: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/download_speeds.shtml

Err 3 months 3 on fibre? if fibre continues to be delayed I can change the offer to the equivalent amount of discounts against the value subscription for ADSL.
Also just need to ask what is actually happening when the BT speed tester fails? can you get us a screengrab?
Sorry for the epic amount of questions, sure you understand why and what I need to clarify here
Take care and speak soon

We have 0 PC's. There is a PC tucked away that comes out for larger screen occasions.

No, neither of us have an HD screen and it would be pointless!

You weren't - there was just blank white space under that line (nothing on offer at all)
Is it true I can choose anything from here then? http://www.hornby.com/shop/ ?
Quote Also just need to ask what is actually happening when the BT speed tester fails? can you get us a screengrab?
I tried at the time but was having Java issues, at least that was my take it on it, tried it in Internet Exploder, Furry Fox and Hopera - or could just be BT - but it did work and it said results would be available to my ISP. So you should be able to see them. Next time it plays up I'll make sure I have Jasc open ready to screen grab!
Quote Sorry for the epic amount of questions, sure you understand why and what I need to clarify here
So you should be, how dare you ask me all these questions and not give me an answer to what on earth was going off with 'Potatoes'? Although I guess they do say one should work hard and play hard - problem is you never seem to get that much time off! You've not even been to visit yet!
Take care, you know what I'd be saying to you if you were on the phone in regards to one of the comments, clocks tick you know!
Have fun!

OK, let me know how you get on with the tests I've suggested to do on your netbook and the notebook. I don't know how big an inconvenience it would be for you to try the same on the desktop too but that may help.
Re HD vids the only reason I mention that is that some people either by the means of error or misunderstanding (and I know you don't tend to suffer from either!) end up clicking the HD button which tends to "soak up" bandwidth like a sponge.
Quote Is it true I can choose anything from here then? http://www.hornby.com/shop/ ?
Nope, I'm not into trains but I still found myself looking at one of the digital sets on there! I do have a penchant for model making though.
Quote Next time it plays up I'll make sure I have Jasc open ready to screen grab
Cheers, that would help. I am aware that the BT tester does have some issues from time to time but in all honesty that does sound like your java client. Has that happened on both computers?
lost me a bit there, that could be something I posted elsewhere I'm guessing!

Skype & Teamviewer act like a sponge too So does Plusnet So does surfing Grrr at a 10Gb allowance
Yeah I know a fair few folks tend to HD it on the vids, but to be honest, most of the YT links come from you you & co via FB and even then I don't tend to watch all of them. My main gripe is normal surfing / work issues, FTP / Skype / Teamviewer, downloads I'm not fussed with as Updates tend to be fine, just some days it's just turmoil and sludge trying to do anything, never had that when we were with BT! That is just bad TM & Package from PN, still get what you pay for at a guesstimate!
Tests were done both of Notebook & Netbook. "Results will be made available to your ISP", however I did a Ctrl+C for you.
Quote 1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
2474 Kbps
0 Kbps 4000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2474 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1200-4000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3736 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3295 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 17.9:24.96:57.18 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
311 Kbps
0 Kbps 440 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 311 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 440 Kbps
So there we have it, and I can't remember if these are tonights or last nights, or was it the night before? I can not remember

Quote Do you seriously expect me to answer that here?
Yes, I do expect you to answer that! I'm going to hazard a guess that surrounded by muggles he's a Goblin not a Smurf! Why are you not line manager? Then, why would you want to manage lines? Are they all straight? Or are some bendy and wiggly?
Keep having fun - oh
if I can't get anything from Hornby what about http://railsofsheffield.com/default.aspx They're in Sheffield!
Okay, keep having fun, don't forget to ring when you get a chance!
Cheers!

Your speedtest results are still looking fine, seems odd that you are seeing a poor experience though, we can rule out the traffic management easily enough by putting you on the top profile for a while to test. I'll ask Adam to sort that out with you tomorrow.

As Chris has suggested we've now made some changes to your connection which will help us further understand if traffic management are causing the issues you've reported.
Let us know how you get on
PS no to rails of Sheffield too by the way, such a shame that's just around the corner from where I live too.

Well we'll keep an eye on things this end, been rather wet this end, so we'll keep a watch on what goes off (however the full re-wire on the cab for the Fibre Cab seems to have made a huge difference

I still think half the issue lies with the router hooter (that horn has never sounded right)
It does show, that whatever they did with the Cab, has made a huge difference, it is every since they had the issue with the fibre, and then re-did all cabs that we've now had a steady connection. Still a shame about throughput.
As a test, I had a play on BT Wi-Fi and it to be honest, it goes like the clappers, the signal isn't the strongest either! I just wish I could replace the router to prove that it is the weakest point in the link!
Also, this router is the only one that has kept upload to 440 (all the other gave 448)

I can't really go into specifics but we did make some slight alterations to traffic management which should help us prove if there was any issues relating to traffic management.
