Thnk carefully before installing PlusnetProtect

I used to use Kaspersky, which I was happy with - apart from the fact that at times it seemed to hog the pc. So when I upgraded Plusnet from ADSL to fibre in November I took advantage of the offer of a three month freebie of PlusnetProtect. I made a booboo.  Embarrassed
Not only did it draw my attention to a couple of oddities (mentioned in a previous thread) which - according to cognoscenti consensus - were probably false positives but, more significantly, when I contacted McAfee twice about the topic (using a code given me by PlusNet) I was greeted with  . . .  silence. Not a bleeping thing.
Have now knocked it on the head, and am going back to my first love.

Re: Thnk carefully before installing PlusnetProtect

When I got FTTC in Dec 2012 I took the free McAfee. After a short time (few weeks) it told me it had expired. I had good alternatives so I just gave it up.

Re: Thnk carefully before installing PlusnetProtect

I used McAfee for a few years but found it failed to block a couple of nasty bugs. The constant renewal popups during the last few weeks of my subscription were the last straw, I wouldn't take McAfee even it was free. Five years ago I and two relatives switched to Kaspersky and we are well satisfied. There have been a couple of hiccups, when upgrading/renewing it pays to follow the advice on Kaspersky forum and perform a clean installation, don't try to overwrite. Google security changes caused some certification problems over the past year, solution is on the forum. Other than these, it works well and is good value.

Pssst!
The fortnightly mag ComputerActive has a couple of decent Kaspersky download offers at the moment :- 1 PC for 1yr @ £17.99  or 3 PCs for 2yrs @ £39.99.

If you go over to ebay you will probably get a better deal.

Should have added that I buy via Amazon, KIS2015 one yr/five user for £25. Today I see 3 user for £18, five user £25, 2014 one user £12.50. Date does not matter as activation code is valid for three years.

Also worth checking whether your bank does a deal with AV.
I get my Kaspersky licenses free from Barclays Smiley

No need to waste money, Avast free edition works perfectly well and always rates near the top in tests.  Cool
I haven't had any viruses and the like since I first installed Avast more than ten years ago. They also protect my Android phone, for free.
I love free.  Smiley
