Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Hello Jameseh...
Which would make it worse, as the figures are those shown are as of 11:30am for peak usage since 8:00am.
At 15:00 the peak usage shows a staggering 386.51Mb since 8.00am !!!!
I installed the Think Broaband software on a suspect computer, accessed the Plusnet usage page and just sat there 10-15mins, the software showed downloads totalling about 20Mb.
Went to Google News and the software immediately show a jump of 14Mb in downloads, I closed Internet Explorer but there was another surge of activity taking the total downloads to 50mb in about 30mins.
Does the Think Broadband software only indicate the data flow on the computer it's running on, at the moment it's showing litlle or no usage.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

While typing the previous message peak usage has gone from 386.51Mb to 393.06Mb.
Is it possible for someone to piggy back an account or a cross wire along the way show someone elses usage on my account?

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

The amount of times this subject has been brought up over the last couple years and STILL plus net does not listen to their customers Is ridiculous. They must be making good money seeing as they are not willing to change things.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Steve,
I'm not responsible to designing Plusnets products (which is probably a reason why we are still trading) but I see a lot of people asking for essentially more broadband without considering the cost implications associated we it.  We buy bandwidth.  More bandwidth costs more money. You seem to be essentially accusing us of not giving you more for no additional cost.
We absolutely will review usage in our next product refresh, but I think that everyone needs to consider that giving you guys more GBs costs us more £s and margin on broadband are extremely tight as it is.
We'd LOVE to give our customers more stuff, but unfortunately we have to keep the beanies happy and not sell a product at a loss.

No not at all, Just saying that this has been brought up time and time again but nothing changes. I understand the costs but that could be added Into a new bundle at a reasonable price.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

We've literally just added a 120GB product for £15.99/£19.99.
The usage on Value will absolutely be considered in our next refresh.  We know that people want more usage - the comments are not being ignored.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Meanwhile, is the wholesale cost of bandwidth still dropping?
I'm happy with what I currently get from Plusnet (on FTTC) but for very little more I could get unlimited elsewhere.

Now, Now girls reserve your anger for the daft companies that sponsor Big Brother.  Grin
I saved a log of usage from the Think Broadband software, it gives ip numbers of websites rather than website names.
Anyway one showed data usage of 8000k (8Mb ?) which seems very high.
I googled the number and it came up as "server5.worldofworkingfromhome.com" it's not a website we know or use and I'm to afraid to visit it.
Something is ramping up our usage without us apparently doing anything.

I guess it's something malware related, worldofworkingfromhome.com is a blank page, server5.worldofworkingfromhome.com appears to be a video website titled "crazypoppingvideos".

Yes I guess say offering a unlimited package would result in PlusNet becoming bankrupt.
Makes me wonder how John Lewis Broadband manage it. Roll_eyes

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Have installed the Think Broadband on a second computer....comparing the two computer one seems ok but the other suddenly suddenly downloads mega bytes of data while static on a webpage.
So looks like one the computers has something it should not.
Meanwhile on the good computer, I've noted usage while travelling the internet autobahn and found something very interesting...
I'd already openned a tab to look at my account usage on Plusnet.
Went to a local website and usage on the softawre went from 3.6Mb to 4.6Mb, went to a commercial forum usage went from 4.8Mb to 5.2Mb.
Having looked at a few pages usage rose to 6.2Mb
Clicked on the tab which had the Plusnet usage page displayed, no change BUT when I clicked on Community the usage shot up from 6.2Mb to 9.1Mb !!!!
So the award for gobbling up most usage goes to Plusnet.  Grin

Please remember that the usage shown at "View My Broadband Usage" is not instantaneous.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Hello,
Possibly I didn't make it clear.
It was the Think Broadband software that went from 6.2Mb to 9.1Mb usage when I selected community, it's just gone from 11Mb to 14Mb when from the usage page to Community.
The Think Broadband showed the following changes when these links were clicked.
Mb
6.2
9.1 Community
9.3 Forums
9.3 Feedback forum
9.4 This thread
9.4 Login
9.5 Back to this thread
9.7 Mesage uploaded
Which all seem reasonable compared to the 3.1Mb loading the community welcome page.

Re: Time for basic usage allowances to be increased?

Hi Christmas,
Your VMBU page isn't real time, it updates every hour with the last hours' usage though it can be up to two hours behind. The reason you're seeing jumps like that is because it's updating an entire hours' usage each time.
Apologies if you're using some kind of network monitor to get this information, just thought I should reinforce what Anotherone says above.
