Unacceptable connection speeds

BT came out today, fitted a new cable from the telegraph pole to our house, he also fitted a master socket in the lounge, the telephone line is much better now, I'm guessing the broadband will too.

That's good news!
Has he connected up your extension sockets as well? If he has is the router now plugged in to the new master socket or one of the extensions?
Can you post the stats shown by your router (sync speed, attenuation and noise margin) please. It's going to take a few days for BT's systems to recognise your improved line and we'll be able to predict what sort of speeds you should see. We'll also make sure you get the best possible out of your line.

He didn't change the socket upstairs where my modem is plugged into, I will move this downstairs and into the master socket.

What I think you will now find is that if you remove the lower half of the new master socket to reveal the test socket inside you will find that the wire to the extension socket is connected to the back of that faceplate. The extension socket will then be dead.
If you can post the router stats from where you normally have the router and then when it is plugged in to the test socket we will be able to tell how good the internal wiring is (I guess it doesn't look like he touched that).

It shouldn't be a problem for me to have the router downstairs at the master socket, if this helps?

i think you are speed limited to 7616 because interleaving is switched on

So there is no problem with my connection upstairs.
With regards to interleaving, should I switch this off?

Funny enough, I bought my wife a WII for Christmas, we do plan on playing online in the future. To be honest though, the main reason for good speeds is so that I can upload high res. images to my server, I have been working with a 3D modeling company, we have been uploading files via Dropbox, at times mine can take over a day to upload, whereas he takes a couple of hours.
Just to confirm though, would putting the router downstairs not make a difference? I suppose I need to see how I get on with the connection for a day or two?

There doesn't seem to be any improvement though this afternoon.

It will take a little while for the speeds to increase and you need to leave the router plugged in, connected and turned on otherwise the system will see disconnections and drop the speed again.
