If you can provide the Summary Page from Routerstats as you already did that will be a first step. Then monitoring the error per 15 minutes will give a good indication.
What you must do is connect it to the test socket behind the lower section to remove your internal wiring from the test. Even if you have to add a wire extension for the phone.

Oldjim, I can left click and I get the hand but it will only oull sideways not down any suggestions?

A long what lead? Power lead?
If you mean telephone extension it may be worse than useless, especially if of the flat DIY-shed plug-in variety.
You need the router connected to the BT Test Socket (behind the lower removeable faceplate) with the short RJ11 cable and a filter.
(If you've got an old modem cable lying around that will do the job, the filter is only acting as an adapter during the test and it eliminates it as a possible fauly component.)
Connect your PC to the router by LAN or wireless, it doesn't matter - whichever is easiest to do.

Using a long telephone extension from the master socket to the router will very probably cause problems.
Having the router beside the master socket and then using a long CAT 5 ethernet cable will not cause problems (unless you live in a mansion and it will be several hundred metres long).

I will plug into the master socket the modem/router via the short cat5 lead , via a filter then run it downstairs to the computer using a long cat5 lead which should do the trick.
can someone tell me what I should be looking for compared to what I am seeing now stat wise?

Thanks max value is 67 and now the noise margin is at 8.4 if that helps?

Excellent, just what's needed.
Higher sync speeds would be the first clue.
(If you were using DMT we'd like to compare the tone graphs as well)

Let's leave DMT for a while as Routerstats gives similar information.
After we get to the next step we can look at DMT but at this stage I don't think it will give that much extra information.

Thanks Oldjim, I will sort it out tomorrow and report back.
Something different, If  I use a laptop with the computer running R/S shutdown, does that mean logging is not running on R/S ?
Once again many thanks to all who are trying to help me, I am learning as I go along but cannot interpretate the data like you experts, what would we do without you, very helpful.

I keep forgetting that, maybe because I'm used to DMT and it gives more info.
(for me anyway, but maybe it's because I'm using DGTeam firmware on a DG834GT on an ADSL2+ connection )

I am not used to remote server shut down - if that is what you mean. But if the laptop shuts down the monitoring will stop.
However at this stage let's keep it simple and just see if there is a change in sync speed etc.
That is a load of rubbish - R/S =RouterStats 
The only time RouterStats will track what is happening is when the computer it is running on is connected to the router and working.
However that only stops the logging - when you reconnect to the router it will report the main router information as per the summary screen but if you switch off or resync the router you will lose the cumulative error reports.
I won't be around tomorrow until the evening but I am sure that the other posters will be able to advise.
