as the previous said, it's plusnet that is deciding what to charge the end-user, not openreach.
openreach are charging plusnet.
so i ask plusnet how they come up with the charge to apply to their customer. and why it varies depending on who the customer is.

i think the question is WHY you charge a particular customer one price and another customer a different price.
and what deems it likely that you can recoup such a cost from the customer should you decide to waive it.

Because they can and the fact that they absorb some costs instead of passing them on in full is called Customer Relations
If you had checked the base charge for Line Rental from Openreach and the costs per call that is where Plusnet make their money as, effectively, the broadband is subsidised which is why, if you take broadband only they charge for some things

PCP only install £49 plus VAT so yes it is partly subsidised

so if plusnet have decided to subsidise the activation fee for a broadband only customer then the reason previously given that they can recoup it via the telephone line charge must be baloney.
this £25 charge appears to have been plucked out of thin air.

Yes, it's a bit like the £65 your fault engineer fee, or the higher prices for FTTC outside of the low-cost areas, they're all prices arbitrarily set by Plusnet.

I don't think it's a figure plucked out of the air, obviously depending on what package(s) you take, will relate to what cost PN charge (if any) in relation to set up , also factoring in what they are charged.
If you don't like the reduced fee PN charge, don't take the package(s)
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

yes it's a reduced activation fee, but it's an increased monthly charge for the broadband.
the original reasoning was that phone customers don't get charged because it can be recouped during the length of the contract.
so are plusnet thinking that they can recoup some of the activation during the length of this broadband only contract? recoup some but not all of it....
