Re: are you stupid?

If it's a DNS failure, is it worth using a local DNS cache?

Re: are you stupid?

I hope you realise that not all sites/routers respond to ping packets?
Others will treat it as low priority traffic that can be thrown away if necessary.
A few sites will treat multiple pings from the same address in a similar way as a denial of service.
If you want to measure latency you need to use TCP packets - not ICMP ones.
Ping is just a tool to get a rough idea of connectivity.

Re: are you stupid?

yeah i didnt not know that but whatever the case is i had interleaving off to give me better ping it was fine for a good few months then it went stupid now they have turned interleaving back on and its even worse cant play online at all

Your original Question 1:56pm, Thursday 24th December 2009
Dear Mr Lewis Williams-ward,
We have asked our wholesale broadband suppliers to turn interleaving on on your phone line to try and fix your current broadband problem.
Interleaving is a form of error correction that helps to improve the stability of high-speed broadband. One drawback of interleaving is that it can increase ping times, which may cause problems for online gamers.
We think that turning on interleaving may help with your connection problems. Interleaving usually takes 24 hours to turn on, but can take up to 5 days to take effect.
If interleaving solves your problem, please close this Question. If you are still seeing problems with interleaving switched on, please return this Question to us with as much detail about your problem as possible. Thank you for your time and patience.
Kind regards,
PlusNet Customer Support

yet again im being sent this [Censored]

Re: are you stupid?

I don't think Wireshark is needed yet - it looks like the problem may not with the Plusnet connection but internal.
monkey001: Have you tried a different wireless channel yet? What problems do you see when using a wired connection?

Re: are you stupid?

Looking back it appears he uses wired for the PS3 and wireless for the PC, which is helpful as the wireshark for PS3 uses a wired+wireless connection to create a bridge to the PC for wiresharking, is wiresharking a word?

Re: are you stupid?

There is a large overlap on the wireless channels so you need to try significantly different ones. If you were on 11 try 7 and 1.

Re: are you stupid?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels
If you choose one of 1, 6 or 11 then you won't overlap with anybody else on the "standard" channels.
