Re: dear adam or colin or jamesh or moses

That's a good start. Now we want to see how well your laptop can talk to the router, and how quickly.
You are using the Thomson Speedtouch 585, right? That is specced as "802.11b/g", so both B and G.
First check that you have it configured to either G or B/G, and not just B.
Second, you want to check how fast your laptop is connected to it.

Is the MTU configurable on the Speedtouch? If so can someone who has one post the instructions on how to check it is set to 1500.

G is 54mbps so I don't understand how setting the router to G only could bake things worse!

Re: dear adam or colin or jamesh or moses

loads of people have prob's with wireless -even the professionals.
When you changed to "G"  where did you make the change?  On your netbook or the router or both?
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

If it was set to Auto the system may have determined that the data rate would be higher using b instead of g
The data rates are
b = 5.5 and 11
g = 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 and 54
From my experience a lot of devices do not report the actual data rate but the highest for the protocol used.

Re: dear adam or colin or jamesh or moses

I have my TG585v8 set to 802.11g only. Download and streaming speeds on iPlayer over wireless are identical (see attachment). I'm on ADSL2+ with IP Profile 5977kbps. Wireless connection is "Excellent", speed 54Mbps.
Computer is a laptop running XP SP3.
IPlayer diagnostics on a wired connection using a different computer (Vista) are almost identical.
Sorry, this doesn't provide a solution for t.o.m but shows what should be achievable.
