Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Steve - If your sync holds, your speeds will improve when the IP Profile picks up.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Issues still going on and seemingly getting worse!! - see pic graph2
Dropped connection 6'o'clock this morning - resynced at 256k downstream
BT IP profile dropped immediately to 135k and has not moved from there.
Rebooted router at 17:40 on advice from phone help - resynced at 5344.  Great - shame about the profile!!!!
Router has since lost connection three times , resyncing at 2880, 2880 and 3228.
Down/upstream speed is now 129/329
BT speedtester reports
Your DSL connection rate: 3328 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  384 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 104 kbps
This is incredibly frustrating and time consuming. When are BT or PN or whoever going to accept that the LINE IS FAULTY and do something about it  Angry
Just dropped AGAIN - resync at 2880 this time

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Hi snailspace,
Is the line in the test socket when it drops, or is it in the internal network? If it's the latter it may be worth investigating possible issues with the internal wiring or microfilters (though I understand this issue has been ongoing for a while so apologies if that's all been checked already). The fault report is still active with BT and we are continuing to investigate, we do understand that there is a line fault that needs looking at.
I'll chase this up for you in the morning and drop an update in letting you know where we are.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Hi Obrey
The router (thomson 585v7 supplied by PN) was plugged intot he (brand new) filtered faceplate supplied by BT on their last visit. This was in turn attached to a brand new master socket assembly also supplied by BT on their last visit. All internal wiring disconnected and has been for weeks
On advice from CS this afternoon router is now and will remain plugged into the test socket.
The RJ11 lead is brand new (replacing it made no difference)
The Ethernet lead is brand new (replacing it made no difference)
The filter is brand new (replacing it made no difference)
The phone attached to the filter is brand new, replacing it made no difference, nor did not having a phone attached
Have tried using a modem lead without phone or microfilter
Have tried (2 ) different routers (Thomson 510 and USR 9106) - no difference
Have tried detecting AM radio frequency interference at various times of day without success.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Hi Everyone
Nothing good to report, I'm afraid. Sad
Router continues to drop connection at varying intervals - speeds have now risen to a 'staggering' 232/351 (down/up)from an all-time low this morning at 11kb
After more calls to CS, BT want to send out yet another engineer tomorrow! Roll_eyes
Will post back what happens - if any thing.

Hi snailspace,
sorry to hear this is still going on. Hopefully the next engineer will be able to find something. My fingers are crossed for you.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Hi Orbrey (and everyone else)
AT LAST - BT finally acknowledged that a fault on the line actually exists. This small miracle occurred when their own engineer - with their own equipment - synced first at 109kb and then was unable to sync at all.
BT engineer arrived about  9:00 this morning and left 20mins ago (about 12:20).
After being unable to complete his tests at the socket, he was actually able to look a bit further.
Faults found in line from junction box 1/4 mile up the the road, from junction box at entrance to my little close, and at junction box just outside the house. Not sure exactly what the initial engineer and his colleague (called later) did but it would seem that the fault has now been resolved as long as the line stays stable.
Router now reports
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,872
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.5 / 25.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 15.0
---------------
BT Speedtester shows
Your DSL connection rate: 7872 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1826 kbps
------------------------
MyBroadband Speedtest gives 1988/378
-------------------------
PNs linespeed is set at 3500
--------------------------------
Hopefully the connection will remain stable and speed pick up fairly quickly.
Many thanks for all your input and assistance.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Hi Everyone
Hopefully this will be the last post here.
Am now connected at a much improved and seemingly stable (19 hrs) 5Mb downstream so it would seem th issue is now resolved.
Router stats are
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 7,872
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.5 / 25.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 15.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 22 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 2 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 2 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 3,008
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 1 / 3
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 3
The only thing that puzzles me is PN line speed is 5500 while BT say 6500.  Should they not be the same?
BT Speedtest gives:
  Your DSL connection rate: 7872 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4817 kbps
PN linespeed gives
Telephone number:
    ***********
Phone exchange:
    CROWNHILL
Estimated line speed:
    5 Mbps - Checked on 2009-03-24 19:22:11
Current line speed:
    5500

Again many thanks for all your help and support
Regards
Terry

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

normally takes 24 hrs for PN profile to catch up with BT.
PS have you nicked some of Annies speed, she is on that same Plymouth exchange  Cheesy

That's great news Terry.
Glad the engineer managed to get your fault fixed.

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

Cheers James,
All OK now except for PN profile seemingly stuck at 5500 while BTs is at 6500 and has been for a couple of days now
Tried tagging a request on the end of the fault ticket (ID: 28785027) - tried phoning CS this morning - still stuck.  Any suggestions?  Crazy
Also, anyone know why is BTs profile over 1Mb slower than the sync speed- this seems an awfully big difference.  Huh

Re: low speeds - noisy line - dropped connections - service issues

That's magic -thanks again, James.  Now why couldn't CS just do that when asked.
Speed now almost back  Grin where it was before all this started, so this should be the last post here.
Cheers everyone
