The lyrics might not be the most suitable, though I appreciate you suggestion. Grin

Re: updating hold music

I can't see how anything can be worse than "Don't you want me baby" when your trying to get a better deal and failing.

Saying I wanted them to eat that record would be an understatement.

When did you last call? I believe we've changed it.

What about The Psychedelic Furs' Pretty In Pink to go with the corporate colours.

Re: updating hold music

There's music?

all I ever get is 30 seconds of something earpiercing which attracts all the local dogs, 30 seconds of something un-discernible as my ear drums are still recovering from the track before, then some hold message saying "Thankyou for waiting" etc rinse and repeat for 45 minutes.

Re: updating hold music

Well the "music" is different to the loud thumping music that I heard 6 months ago when last calling. Still not to my taste, loud and distorted but not quite as annoying as previously was the case.

Re: updating hold music

I'd vote for no hold music.

In this day and age terrible scratchy noisy hold music is not acceptable.

Hold music is pointless and annoying, especially when there is some idiot interrupting it every 20 seconds to tell you how important your call is. I don;t care and/or don't believe you, just answer the phone.

If I am on hold for 20 minutes I can leave the phone on speaker and do something else if there is no hold music. If there is hold music it is distracting so therefore the 20 minutes is wasted listening to terrible music badly presented over and over.

Re: updating hold music

I agree it's annoying having terrible music badly presented for anything more than a couple of minutes, but at least having some sound tells me the call hasn't been cut off.

I've only needed to call a few of times, but each time was on hold for more than 20 minutes.  If you're going to have queues that long, you at least need music that lasts that length of time, so customers don't have to listen to the same thing so many times.  The current track can't be more than about 2 mins long, so I've heard it 10 times this evening.

Another suggestion: I don't need to hear the same recorded message so many times - once at the start would be fine.

I expect it's too much to ask for more call centre staff so that customers don't have to wait so long for their call to be answered...

Re: updating hold music

"Your call is important to us"  So that's why you have insufficient staff to answer me.

"All our advisors are busy helping other customers at the moment"  So your product is so bad that hundreds of people need to call you for help.

How about playing When You Say Nothing At All (every call centre worker's dream).

I know PN use 0800 numbers, but some companies make a tidy sum from 0845, 0870, and even 09 numbers.  Before those numbers existed it was perfectly possible to leave the phone to ring (at no cost) in a queuing system and only be answered when someone was free to take the call, i.e. you only paid for the actual time you spoke to someone.  Today the endless menus offered hardly ever have an option for what you need, and simply serve to annoy customers further.

Re: updating hold music

I had occasion to call today. Fortunately it was Sales so the wait was short, as were the two or three periods on hold. Just as well, as the unidentifiable "music" was horrific, and a few dB louder than a couple of years ago!

I remember at the time suggesting that it surely can't be that hard to find the volume control and wind it down a few notches. Has no one managed to find it yet?  Roll_eyes

Re: updating hold music

Totally agree that Plusnet's hold music is terrible, including one segment that is just total noise. They'd be better off with some calmer 'ambient' music with very little discernable beat. That way people would get less wound up whilst they wait 15 minutes or so for a reply from the tech helpline!

Re: updating hold music

Ok sorry mods/PlusNet for linking this very old thread, but I remember it cracked me up when I read it at the time. Though you have to see the funny side. This issue has been raised before Smiley

Old Hold Music Thread

My personal favourites:

Tech Support. Fix You by Coldplay.

And the new lyrics to What's Going On:

4 Non Blondes (Ben / Dave / Stew / Neil)

Twenty - five days and my Broadband's still
trying to get up that great big hill
of hope ........ for a solid connection.

And I realized quickly when I knew it to be
That the world was made up of dodgy ISP's
for us all ........... and whatever that means

And so I cry sometimes in front of my PC
Cos just to get it on line is just too hard for me
And I am feeling ............. a little peculiar

And so I phone in the morning on 0845
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream at the top of my lungs
What's going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what's going on?
Ooh, ooh ooh

And I try, oh my god do I try
I try all the time, with this institution
And I pray, oh my god do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution

And so I cry sometimes When I'm on the phone
But I dial up the forums and see I ain't alone
And I am feeling ............. a little peculiar

And so I phone in the evening on 0845
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream at the top of my lungs
What's going on?

And I say, hey hey hey hey
I said hey, what's going on?

Twenty - five days and my life is strange
Cos I've just been told the T & C's have changed ...........
