Has anyone managed to set up plusnet in Apple Mail running under Majave? In over 20 years I have never failed to get a mail client working but this beats me as the creation process just hangs. It would help if Apple said why it cant be done but maybe someone knows what is going on?
If it cant be done, then added to the problems of having to explain to everyone on GMAIL that Plunet mail will probbably be delayed it is just about the last straw. The fat bloke who keeps telling us he is 'doing us proud' should perhaps pull his finger out and modernise the Email service.

Sorry to hear you're having issues setting up your e-mail address.
Can you advise if you get any specific errors as this will help us advise you further

You dont get a specific error. You do have to click 'continue' to go ahead which what Apple terms an unsecure password and this continue window appears twice. Then it asks if you want to set up Mail and Notes with tick boxes for each. You hit next and it just hangs for ever. No further help from Apple is forthcoming.
If Apple Mail allowed the account to be set up maybe one could look at settings but as you cant set up the accound that is a non sequitur.
For now it would be helpful to know if anyone else has installed Plusnet mail on Majave. It may be that if one had an earlier working install then it would upgrade with an OS upgrade but I have started from scratch as this is my first macbook.
I could try a third party client but I should not have to.

Yes I have. I am running a fully patched Mojave system.
Apple mail is a bit of a PITA to sort out.
For foo , change to your usename
In Mail, Select Internet Accounts (this seems to be set by Apples wizard, which it gets wrong for non preferred accounts , Google etc)
In internet accounts
Email address: foo@foo.plus.com
Description: Plusnet
Name: foo
Password: the one supplied by Plusnet
Select Use with Mail
Advanced
Hostname imap.plus.net
Path Prefix INBOX
Now go to Mail - Preferences - Accounts, select Plusnet (boring I know)
Account Information check email address is correct
Server settings
Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
Username: foo@foo.plus.com
Password: the one supplied by Plusnet
Hostname: imap.plus.net
Automatically manage connection settings tick
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Account foo: plus.net
Username: foo@foo,plus.com
Password: the one supplied by Plusnet
Hostname: smtp.plus.net
Automatically manage connection settings tick
Once all saved, exit mail completely, then restart, then test.

I do not see the exact options that you present specifically I do not see description and name. I am asked to continue twice for unsecure passsword for the imap and relay servers then it hangs after selecting use mail.
I can't set up account so can't go further to check server settings.

Can you confirm your mail program is Version 12.2 (3445.102.3)
I have had trouble adding an account, choosing the 'Other Account option',
Usually I let it fail then go into Mail Preferences and then select the account button.
Then select the new account and set it up manually.
I think the Apple wizard 'Add Account' tries to log on, fails, eventually but you should then be able to manually set it up, including other attributes such as TLS, Port etc.
I have used a variety of Non-Specified accounts, and often had to revert to the isp's web site to get the required settings.
If all fails, you could try the Apple online support via phone, or take it into an Apple store.

Trouble is if fails to go past 'next' on other attached image

Try this...
Mail Preferences Accounts
You may see a list of existing accounts, or not, in either case do this
Select + on the option at the bottom of the list.
Select Other Mail Account... in the panel that pops up.
Press Continue
Enter name
Enter Email address
Enter Password
Press Sign In
Eventually you will get another panel
Enter Username, account type, incoming server, outgoing server
(Ignore the unable to verify message in red)
Press Sign In
After a longer pause (be patient) you will see
Unable to verify account name or password (in red)
Press Next
Select the Apps required (Mail obviously, Notes maybe not)
Press Done
Viola, a new account is in the list.
Then you should be able to fill in the details (replacing foo with your username) as I said in a previous post
and hopefully you will be able to use the account.
I have just done this on the mail server, using the same version of mail you have, no problems
It is a bit convoluted as you are fighting the Apple Mail wizard, but I have done this using various non specified mail servers on more than one mac.
Bonne Chance

sorry been preoccupied for a couple of days.
I dont know how I can make it any clearer that I cannot get past 'next' as shown on my earlier screenshot.
Apple seem not to want to allow an acount with current Plusnet protocols on Mojave at least. I read somewhere that old accounts can be migrated over but new ones probably will not set up.
Anyway, thanks for the help and I'll use the awful web mail for a while longer while waiting to see if Plusnet will do us proud by implementing modern mail servers. Ironically someone asked me tonight about Plusnet and I explained about the Apple and Gmail issues. I doubt if he will be signing up.

One last try, as it may be the files in ~/Library are defective, especially if you did an upgrade.
Create a new User on the mac.
Try again, if it fails on Plusnet, well I am stumped. Call Apple.
If it works, then the macosx original account Library files may be screwed, do you have any other email accounts on this macosx account?

Hi,
I'm currently setting up a system with Mojave 10,14 and when i enter the username, password, incoming and outgoing mail servers (imap.plus.net and relay.plus.net) it seems to go into an infinite loop of trying to setup.
I understand that Apple Mail is trying to find the settings and ports automatically, but there used to be a way to manually enter these settings.
Can anyone advise how to best get this setup on Mojave?

Sadly no. I gave up trying and just use web mail. The Mac is not my main computer so I can live with it. If I wanted to geting working I think I would install Thunderbird on the Mac. That has never failed me.

HI @darrensen
That's odd and having a read of the thread you've linked, I'm a bit stuck to be honest. I'd expect the steps Here to work and I believe they have worked for one user although not another, which tells me that it seems to be certainly possible.
Assuming those steps haven't worked for you either, what happens if you setup another e-mail address first like gmail then try setting up your plusnet address afterwards?
