Hub2-USB Port - Connecting 4 Ports Hub Splitter USB 3.0

I have 2 x 512GB SSD external drives connected to the Hub2 via a 4 Ports Hub Splitter USB 3.0 : it works fine for a couple of days then the hub looses connectivity with the 4 Ports Hub Splitter. Resetting the hub, via the administrator hub manager, no change to the connectivity. Turning the power off to the Hub2 and then back on, all works again for a few days before loss of connectivity again.

Any idea's as to what's happening.

The obvious work around is to buy a 1TB external drive, as this never happened when I directly connected one SSD external drive, but they are not exactly cheap, so I would like to get the 4 Ports Hub Splitter solution working.

@woodynoble9136 welcome to the community.

How are you powering the USB hub and the two external SSD drives?

If from the Hub Two it might suggest there maybe some overcurrent protection being employed to prevent damage to the Hub Two. The Hub One had a limit of 500mA, I would expect the Hub two to be around the same.

It could also be the USB port is only intended to support a single device.

There are alternative and cheap methods to create a network share, I have two using a raspberry PI hardware, they offer two of each USB 2 and USB3 ports.

I wondered that, I checked the current, was 360mA, but that was at standby so I am now using an externally powered Hub Splitter, but it made no difference.

Re: Hub2-USB Port - Connecting 4 Ports Hub Splitter USB 3.0

It would be nice to have telnet or ssh access the operating system the Hub is using, but as far as I know it is not possible as the device is a locked down. Not unusual for ISP modem/routers these days.

Not having a USB hub I can not see if I get the same issue.

Perhaps someone else has tried this

With the USB port only supporting the discredited SMB1 protocol I would question its suitability for such an application.

However, it is useful for providing power to a wireless pi-hole etc.
