you wouldn't be having your two box solution replaced with this new PN router.

Yet plusnet are a few pennies more and provide a lesser router?

I'm sorry but TalkTalk are providing a more superior nice looking equipment for a cheaper service price. I can understand that you'll want a UK call centre - the last time I phoned up PN was regarding my service start date. None since.

My point was that TT is cheaper and they provide a better router.

The TT's router hardware is better but the routers firmware is very basic and a tad buggy.

IMO it's something like a beta version, great if you're prepared to workaround some of the bugs but it wouldn't suit the plusnet router knocker in this forum.

Reckon it's just a cynical attempt to save a few pennies on the server space taken up by these forums by those trying to help themselves by posting Routerstats and other monitoring data.

Having been a TT customer myself I'd be intrigued to know how many ex customers actually return to them - my guess would be 'very few - at any price!'

Quote from: DJGM1974 Replying to the bit in bold ... let me get this straight, if I had this router in place of the Technicolor 582n router I currently have, would I no longer
be able to manually setup static IP addresses to any device that I add to my network? If that is true, that is a massive dealbreaker for me.
The Technicolor 582n might be a basic rubbish router compared with others available elsewhere, but at least it lets me do that.
As far as I can see, you cannot ask the router to assign a static IP to a LAN device. There *should* be nothing to stop you manually setting a static IP on a device locally but probably best to do it towards the end of the DHCP pool range just in case the router starts to fill up its assigned IP range for whatever reason.
The inability to change the Router IP / IP range etc seems to be a bit of a mistake by whoever locked down the firmware - I have maybe 30-40 devices on my network which are all running on fixed IP addresses and using 192.168.1.1 as the gateway - putting this router in would disable them all immediately.

Plug and play, the minimum possible settings that the end user can mess about with etc. etc.
If the wireless is good, the router is stable and there aren't the inherent issues with the TG582n that seem to follow it then it will be a good starter router for a new customer.
Those customers who want more features or run a "proper" network will probably end up buying a half decent router anyway rather than take an ISP's offering.

assigning a static local IP address is not a "pro" feature in my opinion.
what about opening ports? is that feature also removed?
the TG582n, for all the bad press, works well for those that tinker a little with their network.
