Because I didn't ask that question. I wouldn't need to ask that question.

I didn't ask if it had 4g functionality though. I asked if was possible to tether my phone to this specific router. I thought that was quite clear in my description that I want to use my mobile phone.

I refer you to reply #5.

@geraldwy

maybe I was a bit vague with my first reply, but some subsequent posts have provided an answer.

So are you looking to use a mobile phone or just 4 or 5g modem device to provide failover/backup

TP-Link have some xdsl modem/routers which support a USB modem plugged in directly with failover.

Bearing in mind your apparent skill set maybe you are better placed to search for the answer yourself

Re: Is there a way to use my 4g phone as a backup failsafe for my router ?

Ok I think you are saying it's not possible with the this router eg usb tethering. Are you certain or just guessing it's not possible with this particular router ?
I am certain I will be able to find an alternative solution but my focus is if this is possible with this router.
Getting there slowly ....

I suggest you forget using the Hub Two for your failover/backup as it is a basic modem/router supplied by an ISP and does not have any Add-on options. It's just a basic modem/router for ADSL/VDSL or using the WAN port a router for connecting to a Modem or ONT for Full Fibre.

Re: Is there a way to use my 4g phone as a backup failsafe for my router ?

Does the help on the Hub 2 list the capabilities/limitations of the USB port?

I remember using the help on the Hub 1 to see which file systems the USB port supported.

I would like to rule out that it's not possible before I forget it. This is the very reason why I made the post

I wonder how many times it will take before you either believe what you have told or bother to look yourself.

The Hub2 - and most, if not all xDSL modem/routers - does not have a mobile data interface, so yes, you can rule it out.

How many times will it take before my question is answered and not another.

Re: Is there a way to use my 4g phone as a backup failsafe for my router ?

This is getting silly.

@geraldwy -  In your opening post, you asked the simple question - "Is this possible to tehther my mobile phone service to my Plusnet Hub 2 or do I need to purchase a new router to achieve this?"

Answer: No, it is not possible and yes, you need to purchase third party equipment.

You then asked for a 'more specific' answer.

You were given several which were met with a reply about you having 30 years IT experience and not wanting 'lessons in IT basics'.

Repeatedly asking the same question doesn't change the answers you have already been provided with.

Has to be said, you have a very unothodox approach to asking for help.

Re: Is there a way to use my 4g phone as a backup failsafe for my router ?

No that's not how it went.
I asked a simple question then I was told about what a router does.
I then said my question isn't about the basics of IT as I am an IT professional.
Then followed a number answers to questions I didn't ask with ridicule. Then after referring to the question numerous times one person got close to answering it. With few continuing to ridicule about some other questions which I didn't ask.
That's how it went.
