@Mav Fraid not, we're talking memory for the NAS. Synology's own memory costs a lot, but most use compatible ones........
If it comes with 4GB you could add 4 =8GB, or add 8 =12GB, or replace the 4 with 2x8 =16GB
Mine came from Crucial 4 years ago so specs and prices may have changed.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
I'm holding back on the NAS for a while as I have just spent a small fortune on a Ryzen 9 5950X self-build PC for photo and video editing and two new 32" monitors😎
Shhhhh Don't tell SWMBO🤐

Already bought her a 2008 Land Rover Sport
It's been more trouble than it's worth and is, yet again, in the garage for repairs all under warranty, thankfully.

@Mav Two 32" Monitors, you could end up looking like Sid from Ice Age with that amount of estate in front of you. I can't fully see my 27" Apple and 27" LG.

I'm a bit worried they might be over-kill but they've received excellent reviews.

Have you thought of a DIY solution?
There are some excellent free NAS software suites available where you can take an old PC tower, populate it with some discs and build your own NAS. I have used a HP Microserver that has 4/5 disc bays and put OpenMediaVault on it. It works very well and goes very very fast. You can also learn a new skill in building it. The documentation is also very good.
For the Client side of this I use Filezilla which is also free of charge.
I forgot to add that you get a HP Microserver off Flebay for a loss less than £100 and can make the whole thing boot from a USB stick and so don't lose a disc for a system disc

Is netware still a thing?
I once tangled with Netware 3.x and it was horrible.

Strange, I worked with versions 2,3 & 4 and found 3 was the easiest. I did eventually get to grips with NDS in 4...........
