Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

@Baldrick1    @Anonymous     @rongtw

OK.. well I kinda guessed it would be a waste of time and effort,.... but thought I better give it a go, seeing as you are all trying to help....  here is what I did..

Uninstalled Firefox

Ran CCleaner in cleaner mode

Searched for Firefox in the "start" menu window,   found Mozilla Maintenance Service folder still left over

Tried to "Erase" it using a 3 pass overwriter, but it "FAILED"..

so.. used the "Delete" option... which cleared it from the list, and put it in the recycle bin.

Erased the Recycle bin no problem.

Ran CCleaner in REG CLEANER mode..... twice...

shut down...( windows updates taking place on shut down ).

Re-started.

Downloaded new copy of Firefox via I.E.11.0.4   and ran the installation.

On completion, it showed a folder on the desktop  "Old FIrefox Data".... which surprised me, because I thought I had erased it from the Recycle bin..  ( this folder contained all the stuff from the Moz Maint Service folder.)

Opened up Firefox.... and typed into FF search bar... ( no addons, or extras installed at this time ). Nationwide

showed me the linky.... so I clicked on it... and  Hey Presto  ! ! !

insecure connection message

Just the same as before.

Went to the Tools , Options, and did all my favourite settings.. like no history, and no tabs etc... set google as the home page... and tried again......  once more... Hey Presto...

insecure connection message....

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

@shutter

Thinking a little more about this I have attached a copy of the cert I get from Nationwide. You will note that it has been verified by Kaspersky Lab. I know that you have an aversion to using any sort of paid for Internet security (please don't bite my head off for having a different viewpoint) but wonder whether the difference is caused by the verification agent?

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

That's odd that you should see that @Baldrick1 as I see this:

Symantec not Kaspersky!

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

@Baldrick1  OK... so , you and hundreds of others, possibly thousands, have no problem with accessing the Nationwide site.... and you say the certificate is "good"... so does this page..

https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.nationwide.co.uk

I don`t have a clue what it all means, except that somewhere there it says Mozilla accept it as a good certificate..

Internet explorer has no problem with connecting me to the Nationwide site..

. Only  FIrefox ( latest version )... and Cyberfox ( also latest version )... give me this hassle of "insecure connection"...

The big problem with that, is,..... they do not say, what part of my connection is insecure... If they did, then maybe I could do something about it, and make it a secure connection again.

I have changed my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4  and my IP address is "automatic detection"...  ( it also gave an insecure connection message on "auto detect DNS )

I haven`t a clue as to why or what has changed to make this an issue for me..

Nationwide has suggested it is to do with the browser..... and to use I.E. until it is sorted... so I guess that is how I must go...

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

@Anonymous

Weirder and weirder I have just tried it using Edge rather than Firefox and get the attached. It looks like it's browser dependant. Which brings me back to asking if this is the @shutter problem.

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

@Baldrick1  IF....... IF... it were "browser dependent"..... then surely the thousands of Nationwide customers using Firefox would have the same problem as me.... "insecure connection"... when using Firefox...

OK.. so my "primary" browser is CYBERFOX... a variant of FIrefox.... but I also have FIREFOX ...... AND   Internet Explorer available, and as mentioned it is only the "xxxxFOX" versions FOR ME.. that is giving ME the problem...

so... as you say... WEIRD...

Re: Non- Secure connection warning message

It is weird @Baldrick1 as the link @shutter provided above says the issuer is Symantec so you should not be seeing that it's validated by Kaspersky as there is only one issuer, in this case Symantec.
