Setting up a firestick

Hi

Am having trouble setting up a firestick. I have ver good WiFi signal but it gets so far and then opens a plusnet webpage which says we’re just getting everything ready for you and then gets stuck. Any ideas how I can get round this.

Our tv is a smart tv (old one) but for some reason despite being plugged in using an Ethernet cable the apps have stopped working. So trying firestick instead as other devices attach to WiFi fine. Sorry for rambling.

Re: Setting up a firestick

@Jhillardpa  Welcome to the Plusnet Community Fora.

If you can't connect the TV over Ethernet then adding WiFi is only going to add an extra level of complication. Go back to the directly cabled option.

When you plug the Firestick in can you access the apps with the remote control? Using Ethernet can you log in to your Router, go to the My Devices page and check that the Firestick exists in the list of connected devices .If it's there. is the icon pink showing that it's connected?

Re: Setting up a firestick

@Baldrick1 But if you read his post the apps dont work on his tv so he is using the firestick .

@Jhillardpa Is you connection ok for other devices (laptop, tablet etc?). I'm just wondering if the getting thins ready for you is a connection problem?

@Jhillardpa

You can get Ethernet adapters for Firesticks from Amazon for around £15. Takes the WiFi out of the equation.

The Apps on your TV have probably gone past their sell by date given the TV's age.

Re: Setting up a firestick

Hi all.

Thanks for your replies

Took the firestick to a different WiFi and have done the initial set up there. But still can’t connect it to the plusnet internet at home. It is still bringing up what looks like a plusnet webpage which is now asking me to verify I’m not a robot. I can’t complete this as the verify button is off the screen with no way to get to it. Have got an Ethernet adapter but it’s still bringing me to this odd web page type set up.

I wonder if I have more of an issue than first thought. Laptops tablets and phones conntecting fine through WiFi but did have some issues a few days back with this though all seems fine. Tv was fine. Restarted the router a couple of times then but since then apps on tv stopped working. But devices reconnected.

Re: Setting up a firestick

Fix

@Jhillardpa

Try a factory reset on your Plusnet hub by pushing a paperclip or similar in the reset hole. Keep the switch closed for about 30 seconds or until, with a Hub 2, the light shows green.

If that doesn't work try a factory reset on the Firestick, see: https://www.guidingtech.com/reset-fire-tv-stick-factory-settings/

Re: Setting up a firestick

Are you using just one plusnet hub, which model; if not what other network components are you using?

A picture of the screen would be helpful.

I'm not about today but hopefully others can assist

Re: Setting up a firestick

Thanks for the replies. Will try a factory reset in a bit.

For info it is a hub 2 model. We are just general fibre as full fast hasn’t reached us yet. I have a TP WiFi extension plug connected to the WiFi in a different part of the house

Not sure how to attach picture if screenshot to these messages. Sorry

@Jhillardpa To attach (embed) a screen shot/picture, click the 'mountain' icon (between the 'smiley' and 'camera' ones) at the top of the reply window, and follow the prompts.

Re: Setting up a firestick

@Jhillardpa

To attach pictures select the icon that looks a bit like mountains at the top of the reply field.

It sounds a bit like the Firestick is connected to the Hub 2 and trying to contact an external web site, possibly Amazon? Do you have an account and is the Firestick registered to it?

@jab1 Types faster than me.
