Using Sky Stream with a VPN

I've been looking into getting a VPN for security. However, I also subscribe to Sky Stream for my TV does anyone know if there will be any issues with Sky Stream running via a VPN configured on my router?

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

You could choose to use a split tunnelling VPN, where by default all network traffic goes via the secure VPN, but you selectively exclude specific traffic (in this example Sky Stream) and route the exclusions via your native unencrypted broadband connection.

If you still want to stream video over the VPN, make sure you use the WireGuard protocol (rather than OpenVPN), to minimise buffering and speed issues.

Google searching your question doesn't indicate that Sky Stream via VPN is a problem (unlike Netflix !)

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

I was going to go with ExpressVPN, from the website it looks like they support WireGuard?

I was going to choose ExpressVPN as they seem to be the fastest of the bigger names in the VPN market. Plus the price seems resonable for a 2 year contract.

If people have any recommendations happy to add them to my research 😁

@sjhujh VPN for security reasons ?

You do understand sending all your data to / through an unknown system is also a security risk. Save your money.

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

i used to use Express, but found it degraded over time and a lot of the streaming services blocked it.

ProtonVPN works fine for NOW TV, used it all over the world.

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

I'll have a closer look at ProtonVPN cheers!

Its a shame to hear ExpressVPN service degrades over time. Especially as the packages that make the most sense are longer term ones (2 yrs etc)

Out of interest have you used any of their other services? Like the Password manager? I'm on the market for one of those that I can use across my android devices and PC. The Firefox one doesn't integrate as well into android devices since they shuttered Lockwise 😔

I have an email account,  password manager I've used 1Password pretty much since it launched and the Proton one doesn't integrate with the biometrics so made it more clumbsy to use. I use 1Password across iOS, iPadOS, macOS and windows.

Used to use it on Android as well. Just don't use LastPass Wink

Variety of reasons, but being able to watch the sport that I pay for on my travels is a no brainer Smiley

@Champnet

I also use a VPN for various UK based services but I connect to a private WireGuard server at home.

After the initial cost of raspberry pi the service is free to use.

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

Considering ProtonVPN, Bitwarden and Firefox Relay (already using this)

I only want a 3rd party password manager because I think it would be good to have a platform/browser agnostic password manager, otherwise I would have probably kept using Firefoxes built in one!

Generally I'm locked into the google ecosystem really. I pretty much use and rely on all of Google's services these days... 😕

Re: Using Sky Stream with a VPN

If you want just a platform independent password manager,  I would suggest you check out KeePass databases as a freeware alternative. Most software on different platforms are free to use (some have paid advanced tools). You can then store your database wherever you want, locally on a stick, a cloud storage of your choice or anywhere you think is a safe place.

That's RPM to you!!
