Re: WHY? is it so hard to get Linux to work?

I don`t have any "permanent" stuff on the stick..... just use it for transferring stuff from one laptop to another....
I thought the U3 stuff was for initialising/setup of the stick on each "new" computer... so will either disable it , or remove it.... thanks for the info...

No its to allow specially designed U3 Windows applications to be run directly from the USB stick.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3

Re: WHY? is it so hard to get Linux to work?

It is amazing that what makes life easier for M$ users sometimes causes grief for us Linux users.  Crazy
Things like U3 (thought a lot of M$ users hate that as well, one reason it isn't more common) and the autorun cd of dongles & phones (my android phone has an autorun that installs drivers for M$ to use)

I've always hated autorun, when I was a windows user that would be one of the first things I disabled after my 6-monthly reinstall.

You could have used a wired connection and booted from the Linux DVD.

Years ago I was rescued by Linux when my WinXP refused to boot. I had previously read in the D.Telegraph about creating a rescue disc, which fortunately I had done  .

Yes, I agree, it is a nice "twist" on the age old...... linux v windows  theme, that keeps cropping up on this forum
I, too, have rescued files etc. from  several laptops using Linux Phoenix, Mint and Ubuntu ; Cheesy
