Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

@bobpullen  Green button duly clicked!

I've been in touch with the ISP regarding this saga and been offered a good deal on keeping the second router as a spare, I won't be charged for the cancelled engineer, and there may be a goodwill payment coming my way for the six days I was off line, too.

Yes, it's good to be connected again although I now have a lot of catching up to do.  I almost had to go to the bank and pay a bill via a real live human being!

Thanks again.

Take your pick:

  • You're not using the correct User ID and password, even though you think you are.
  • Some router settings are wrong.
  • The router is faulty.
  • The telephone line has a fault.
  • The equipment in the telephone exchange that your router talks to is faulty
  • There is so much interference that your router cannot connect.

So the problem was down to my second point.

Did you really need to post that last comment?

No, @Browni, I did not.  But point I was trying to make is that problems of this type are not mysterious or rocket science.  Only a finite number of things can be wrong and I tried to capture all possibilities, with the first two on my list being the most likely (in my experience).

I think that comment did need making.
It is generally applicable to all users.

Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

I think you'll find all of those answers in any dummies guide to connecting to the internet Smiley

Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

I would probably try a manufacturers reset first.

You might find https://kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_review.htm to be useful, even though its not your exact model.

Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

@fletcherclann  I'm no expert as the previous posts clearly demonstrate, but a factory reset followed by the instructions on the PN website on how to use your own router should do the trick.  By the way, I found a wooden toothpick (or coctail stick if you are posh Smiley ) worked better than a pin for resetting the router.  And the instructions tell you to keep the pin in until all the light come on; they don't all come on at the same time so just keep the pin in for the recommended time (six seconds I think it was).

Good luck!

Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

OK - sorry for reviving old thread for similar issue - Just got Zyxel router as I am moving TO John Lewis FROM Plus Net (OK, I know, same thing really, but PN wouldn't match the new user deal on JL)

As I am away during the switch, I thought I'd set up the JL router early, but with PN account details.

Everything looked OK, but then the internet broke, selectively, it looks like it is broken now just for http traffic.

So Facebook is fine, but http://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/watchmovement.php (for example) isn't.

Plus streaming on Amazon/Mow etc is broken - is that HTTP?

Any thoughts?

Re: Zyxel router not connecting to internet

Thanks.

Considered that, but I don't think so.  Things work fine until certain devices start streaming, then a minute or so in they stop.  I then can't browse to http sites.

No huge issue, I'll swap back to old router/modem later, then after the formal swap, try again, and if still an issue raise it with JL/PN.

My old router is quite good (mine, not PN's) but the ability to get rid of the modem made me try it.

PS https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/err-connection-reset-on-SOME-websites-only-All-PCs-All-Brows... is a similar issue, and I have a vasgue memory of having a similar one before, many years ago
