EOD 12th June 2009
Well, it's the End of Day for Thursday, June 12th... However, it's a bit of a poigniant moment for me as it also marks what will probably be my last act as a member of Plusnet Staff. As of 5.30pm, I cease to be an Application Developer at Plusnet, instead, leaving to take on a new roll in the North West of London (well, it's on a Tube line so it's still London to me!). Doing some quick maths earlier on, based on what I can find, my involvement with Plusnet stretches to just over 5.5 years in some form of 'enhanced' capacity. I started off as a forum moderator (actually, I might have been in the Tutorials Team before then!) , then moved on to the Usergroup and then eventually in to my position as a developer (starting in Jan 2007) - although thinking about it, I've had 6 different job titles, 4 line managers and 6 different desks through my 2.5 years here. I've learned a lot from my colleagues both past and present, and I think I've at least taught Duffy that sometimes hitting and hoping at pool is the way to go 😉 I've also had some fun times, and some stressful times (anyone remember the Webmail incident?) and have been involved in lots of rewarding projects - the main one of which being this very site that you're reading this update on just now. I've also been, until recently, key to ensuring these End of Day's get posted each day, picking it up from Pete and Ian W not long after it stared! I have every confidence that Plusnet will continue to grow over the next few years, and look forward to remaining as a customer. Anyway, now that's out the way, let's get on with what everyone else has been doing today: First up is Andy from the Web Team:
Good afternoon readers. It's a sad day for the web team as Colin is leaving (he's editing todays EOD so I beleive he'll go into more detail about that himself). I've been on the team for just over a year now and Colins been incredibly helpful over that time - he'll be a big loss I think. As I write this most of the Development department are moving desks and Colin's right in the thick of things, getting involved and helping out right till the death. I could go on but I need to tell you what we've been up to today. A lot of the team are off today, so this will be quick. Phil's been buying Irn Bru for colin, moaning about css in signup and dealing with promocode nonsense (his words!) Dan's been keeping on top of P1's (high priority problems) Garys working on project work. Colin's been documenting things and clearing his desk. That just leaves me. I've been working on support page updates and dealing with (what I hope is) temporary deafness. That's it for today!
Nexst we have Carl from the CSC
Hi, Carl from the Customer Support Centre. We have been pretty busy today, with some ongoing email issues and fax2email playing up. The latter was resolved this afternoon, and our engineers are hard at work to resolve the former. Don't forget, you can find out more about this at Link before calling through. Other than that, it has been a normal day with the general mix of customers calling for assistance in setting up their routers and email clients, and general enquiries. The full top 5 is as follows: 1. New faults - A fair few people raising new faults, a fair few of these being auth issues for recently provisioned accounts, not all of these faults though, one or two typos in the mix. 2. Email client issues - A larger than usual number of these, mostly people unable to get their e-mails because their e-mail usernames are wrong, often without the "+mailbox" at the end. 3. Router configs - Along with the faults on newly provisioned account, theres also a lot of people who call up for assistance setting up their router for the first time. 4. Fault updates - People who already have faults calling up to see where we are with them (or should that be where they are with us?) and what the next step is. As usual, a number of these in hand with our supplier. 5. Provisioning updates - People with orders to join us calling in to see when they'll be online with us, a few of these who've received their router in the post, but don't realise there's a couple of days until activation. Have a good weekend! Carl
Laura from HR now:
Its the end of another week in HR and the sun is shining. This week Jen has mainly been amending and updating performance review reports and has been doing lots of recruitment administration. Amanda has been busy in meetings with BT HR looking to design the reward strategy for 0910 and also looking at a Company mentoring scheme. Gem has been working with Amanda this week on researching mentoring schemes and also has been doing lots of work on recruitment. Barbs has been working with me on creating process maps for absence and she has started an action plan to bring in new a Plusnet application form As for me I have been continuing working on the process mapping of different procedures and have been collating learning and development data. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend, the weather man promised BBQ weather!!
Well, in the way I've started a number of forum posts (it seems) around these parts: So Long and Thanks for all the Fish Colin
