End of Day - 16th January 2009

Hello hello hello, good evening good evening good evening. It's 8pm on Friday and I still seem to be in the office. Is it dedication or medication? I don't know, I think I just love to work. Still I want to get out here in the next 30 minutes to see QI. Think that's do-able as the End of Day is the last thing I need to do before going home. SO without further ado let's get on with the show. And today we start off with Jen from HR:

OK, well after hoping I was(n't) going to be doing the HR update 2 nights in a row...but, alas, here I am again.

It's been a busy old week for us! I nearly always want to write that on a Friday, but this week it's exceptionally true!

Barbara has been busy doing all kinds of things this week including some of the things I mentioned yesterday, so I won't repeat them. As well as that, she's been busy working on the Plusnetter of the Month information following the meeting this week facilitated by Gem.

She's been putting info on all the winners together in a slide deck, along with length of service slides for the rally. Watch this space for those individuals highlighted!

Gem and Barbs are trying to get loads more things on to CIPHR and CIPHRnet to make electronic processing of HR items easier in the long run, such as Performance Reviews and Exit Interviews.

The big thing for this week has been the Employee Opinion Survey, and we've all pitched in trying to collate the results and put an accurate picture together.

My week has been commandeered by an array of visitors to Plusnet, from various companies we have dealings with. Greenbee and Waitrose were nice enough to bring goodies, but I think the Sales and Retentions team might have eaten them all! I've also been busy with transport and accommodation arrangements.

We've started receiving 360 degree reviews back (prompt to anyone reading this with outstanding ones to send through!) so we've been saving and logging these too.

Anyhoo, that's all from me. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Thanks Jen... but hark, there's more:

Ooops, I missed off Amanda's bit - how poor of me. And after she bought me a coffee this morning, too. Sorry Amanda...here's a special mention just for you to make up for it!

Supporting Chris Jones on his induction. Welcome Chris! Kirsty from BT HR visited and Amanda spent the day with her sharing best practices . She also met with a couple of Heads of Department on discussed succession planning and worked with Gem on the new look performance review. Of course, she's also been steering on the Employee Opinion Survey, working with us on analysis and producing the results for the Company Rally.

Now, all I have to do is come up with something good to make up for leaving her out. Ideas on a postcard please.

Sadly there's no HR part three, so let's move on to Sarah from Networks:

Hi all. Today I've been mostly working on problems, the new Telewest Advanced SRS platform, and looking forward to my hols next week. Here's what the rest of the team has been up to

Si - Documentation and working on the datacentre move Matt - Chasing spammers and stopping the spam Richard - CCGI security scanning Dunk - Working on trac - dev bug fixing tool John - Nothing again (his words not mine) Aaron - Lots of tickets Kevin - Just general Parbin work flows Steve - Email deletions all morning and ADSL test box setup for SA this afternoon Neil - KPI's, meetings, meetings and more meetings Ben - Writing the test plan for BV SMTP proxies & Ironport Josh - Coding for the BV mail integration and some horrible project planning meetings

See you all in a week!

Sarah did ask me for my contribution for the end of day which was "editing the end of day". From a literary perspective it doesn't seem right to me to introduce someone else who will tell the reader what me the editor has been doing today. Maybe that's just me being too analytical on a Friday night. And on that let's change the flow and and hear from the last but certainly not least contributor today Peter from the Faults Team:

We've been doing pretty well recently on the faults team with keeping faults up to date, and today we've been working hard to maintain that. Keith has been running the show and speaking to BT's SP helpdesk team to work out ways we can use them to help us resolve speed faults more efficiently. Tony has also been working on speed faults, Munky has been testing new faults, Pete has been focussing on intermittent faults, and Rich has been looking after Home Phone. Rich has also been discussing our performance with Home Phone faults with our suppliers, to see if there are any areas we can improve on.

I've been dealing mostly with no sync faults. I've also had some good news today - I will be heading downstairs to join our QA team. It will be a shame to leave the team here, but I'm excited about the new role, and can't wait to start.

Have a great weekend.

And that's all for today, time to go home I think. Catch everyone again next week and have a fun...
