End of Day: 30th Of April

End of Day: 30th Of April

Just a quick one from me again as we've all been a bit rushed off our feet today! First is Ryszard from Development with an update of epic proportions

I'm off on holiday tomorrow, so I've been sequestered to let folks know what's up in dearest Development. Personally, I'm finishing off a small project to improve security in a couple of places in Workplace. That work will improve things for the customer (always good!), and provide us with a bit more up-front protection from dedicated brute-force login attempts to the product. Security has renewed focus in the department after our recent off-site, so the timing to improve Workplace there is nice. I'm also working with my mentee (Did you make that up? Ed.) to make sure he gets through his probation period, and I'm happy to report he's already a real asset to the department. Ben, along with his fellow new starter Phil (Isn't one of them Henry? Ed.), has done a really great job so far, and their combined work has had tangible benefits. We really hope they both keep up their pace and progress after their training is complete. The rest of the department carries on with project delivery: Ben L is off to India soon for some Remote Development stuff, the lucky ***; the Brightview team are continuing their strong pace; and last in my little list but not least, our new Polish LCST are developing into a strong unit we can rely on here in Sheffield to support the platform. Sorry for rambling on, Pete!

Andrew Clayton! what has been doing on down on the CSC floor today?

Another busy day in the CSC, but the pressure has been offset somewhat as it's pay day!
  1. Router Configuration - this is predominantly for BT Voyager 210 and 2091 models for customers on Option 1 and Option 2. We don't seem to get many calls for the D-Link routers now being shipped for Option 3/4/Pro - obviously there will be less due to the distribution of the customer base on these products, but perhaps this hardware is more user friendly than the BT equipment?
  2. Order updates - lots of calls chasing order progress. This appears to be due to the recent issues with XML order submission - lots of these orders are now completing in eCo.
  3. Email/mailbox setups - mainly from new customers setting up their mail clients for the first time.
  4. Fault updates - general calls chasing fault progress, and these have tended to be the ones which have been long-running issues. SMS updates appear to have had a noticeable reduction in the number of customers with 'recent' faults calling for progress updates however (e.g. faults which have just come out of automated testing)
  5. Username/password verification - quite a few missing @plusdsl.net from routers/modems.

Compensating for Rys' epic, Sarah is succinct for us

It's been a fairly quiet day in networks today, with people working on problems, chasing hardware failures, general operational tasks, answering customer tickets, and clean up work after the Ellacoya rollout yesterday morning. Let's hope tomorrow is as peaceful 🙂

Finally for today is Phil from Marketing who appears to be in a teasing mood

Contrary to our Networks brethren and sistren (?), the Marketing team has been smoking hot all day. Nick's been strategising in the war room; Phil's been getting deep-down-and-dirty with Webtrends data whilst the 3 musketeers have been beavering on tomorrows' big news. A phrase normally reserved for Christmas - I can't wait to get up tomorrow morning...!

--- And that's it. Make sure you all go and look at the front page tomorrow morning! Kelly.
