End of Day: 3rd February
So somehow I have ended up doing today’s EOD, even though I swore that I would not be doing it again as each time in the past when I have completed the EOD, the interesting facts were out weighed by the enjoyment of others critiquing my world renowned bad spelling, punctuation and grammar. Oh well here goes like another lamb to the slaughter It’s been a bit of strange day today at Plusnet Towers due to the fact of the sheer amount of snow that has fallen over the past 24 hours. Like many other Plusnet faithful I wasn’t able to make it into the office this morning due to the weather, and have spent the day working from home. My excuse is the fact that I live in the centre of the Peak District and I found out today my village is supposedly the highest in the Peaks! Which explains the 30cm + worth of snow on the ground this morning and the fact the road outside my house had disappeared! Contrary to popular belief I actually hate working from home as I find it very claustrophobic and this today was made worse with the fact that the local schools were closed and all day I could hear kids enjoying themselves on the bank at the front of my house. However my plan for the evening is to go sledging on said bank, if the kids haven’t ruined all the snow! Anyhow, due to the strangeness of today updates are a little thin on the ground unlike the snow! (Boom Boom!) First up we have James from Web Dev: The majority of the team is still snowed under (Boom Boom!) with major project work (Pete, Colin, Gary, Jonny, Nick and Sam) James has been finalising his plans for the rollout of the software updates for the Communtiy site which should be rolling out very soon. Duffy has been trying to work out (with my help) the best way to sort out a very odd display issue we have found on the partner portal. Lots of head scratching was done this afternoon. Phil has been finalising some problem rollouts for the account change tool and working on some of the major project work. Pete has spent the afternoon bugging me to do the EOD! Finally we have Dave from products with an update: Well it's been a lonely day on the Products desk today. By lonely I mean empty. The weather has certainly had an effect. Took me 3 and half hours to get home yesterday, a journey that normally takes about 25 - 30 minutes. My trip computer said I averaged 3mph, so there's been no point in spending probably even more hours getting to and from the office today. Similar story for Maria and looking at our traffic graphs lots of our customers too. http://community.plus.net/blog/2009/02/02/its-snowing-time-to-work-from-home/ The volume of Remote Access today was a little lower than yesterday but still above normal levels, so I've been spending the day keeping a close eye on the network and ensuring that everything was running fine as well as continuing work on our 21CN trial, answering a few tickets, working on churn and other reports and also completing a few of the random tasks that get passed my way. Hopefully the weather and the roads will be better tomorrow and I can get in to the office. Not quite sure that working with Jeremy Kyle on in the background regularly will keep my sanity. Wrap up warm everyone and take care, looks like being a cold night according to the weather forecast which could cause problems on the roads in the morning. Well that’s it for today; don't think I did too bad a job considering what was on offer...
