I should probably try making spelling and grammar errors in this post to make Jonny feel better, but I can make them without even trying We had some excellent news after lunch today, with a news article on the BBC about PlusNet being voted top for Customer Satisfaction in a recent poll. So, apart from reading the latest news on the BBC, what else have we been up to today? We start the days update with Nigel in Development:
There's a buzz about the department today with everyone shamelessly spamming their friends with the Broadband Choices survey results. Smiles and great pride all round. We seem a little less enthusiastic about signing up for a 10k charity run though. Come on folks, Sheffield Children's Hospital is a great cause. For part of the day I reviewed the changes which are part of our signup resilience project, and it all looks good. The rest of my day has been spent designing a database to hold an analysis of our PHP code. It's a very cool project being done by my colleague Bill Hau, and probably worth a blog post in its own right (Ed: Is that a hint to Bill?). I hope we're allowed to open source the tools he's building. Most of the department is working on Madasafish Phase 2 and our upcoming partner project. The work is going well and lots of the newer staff have really had a chance to test their skills. Even old timers like myself have learned a few things from them, which is great. Owain (who sits next to me) is beavering away at his 'secret project' to bring Plusnet ...... Nope, you'll have to wait and see I sit in close to QA, and have just overheard them defend the need for testing and review procedures to someone who wanted it done NOW. Well done them.
Next up, it's Russ from Networks:
Networks (Legends) have been fairly quiet with problems and tickets under control. I managed to broadcast a request to all my msn friends asking them for an eod. What has every one been up to? Mark - NMIS monitoring work Sarah - Monitoring the platform and working on the cbc problem Ben - RMA'd a server and installed a new mailing list server Simon (work-dodger01) - drinking tea, watching people work and doing staging improvements. Also preparing for disneyland. Dunc - Working on problems Dan - Tickets, Abuse, Mail policing and RIPA requests Neil - Getting to grips with the department and sorting support tickets Ian - PBE (Ed: one of our server types for the Portal) Testing, System Logging Design and Payware security Rizwan - Working on security monitoring Mike P - Staging improvements Geof - Working on security of the server platform, and locking down access with cryptocard/ldap Mike G - authdns work and some ellacoya documentation John - Ad-hoc report work Mark - Authdns stored procedures, database monitoring, writing activations report Russ - Camera Security and monitoring improvements Thats all from networks ttfn
We finish with Martyn from Marketing:
The Marketing department has been a real hive of activity today. We've been beavering away on a raft of special offers, some of which you'll hopefully be able to see tomorrow. I can't tell you the full details (that would spoil the surprise) but I can say that if you're into gaming there might be something to excite you. Also, if you're thinking of moving to PlusNet Home Phone, tomorrow could be a great time to make the switch. I could tell you more but, as the saying goes, I'd have to kill you Just like everyone else we've also been really pleased with the results of the Broadband Choices survey. We picked up loads of awards in 2007 and it's brilliant to see that we've got our first of 2008. It's the ISPA Awards next week, so we're crossing our fingers already. Bye for now...
That's all the submissions for today - a low turnout, but we'll be back tomorrow with more... and Marketing may let us in on the secrets. Colin
