End of Day: 6th March
Regular readers of the End of Day will have noticed the propensity for its content to wander towards the epic. Enough rambling you lot.. In a drive for conciseness I've asked our contributors to exercise some restraint and keep down the word-count today. I'm not going to say it's been busy but.. Michael updates us from the centre of our world, the CSC: Welcome to another addition of the top 5, a fairly busy day with a steady amount of calls, the new starters are doing really well, call times are better and it's all good 🙂 So here we go:
- Router configuration: assisting with setting up customers' new routers, both ones from us and ones they have purchased. This is normally fairly quick unless there was dialup connection set up before.
- Fault updates: these are generally authentication and ‘no sync'-related calls as customers are unable to get online.
- Billing: this includes failed billing; calls are about invoices, etc.
- Email setup: helping setting up different clients such as Outlook Express, explaining about mailboxes etc.
- Package changes: customers calling about changing to our new packages, home phone and added extras.
James gives us the Comms update in just 70 words: I've spent my day working with the Sales Team again, helping out wherever I can. Mand and Matt have mainly been working on problem processes, tools and change controls. Bob and Chris have been dealing in all things networks and they've been trying to get me to install this thing called Citrix, but I'm not entirely sure what I' meant to be doing with it. Maybe I'll find out tomorrow. Alex in Finance exceeds expectations and delivers the 5 W's in only 48 words: Magda, Mike and Jamie of Commercial Finance have been working on the budget today. James has been working on month end reconciliation prep, Kate has been dealing with supplier payments; I have been working on customer tickets along with Andrew who has been dealing with the cheque refunds. Simon in Development lets the side down with a waffling 148 words: Going around the desk: Senthil and Arun have been continuing with documentation on their Brightview tasks and having the usual battles with UML modelling software. Kat's finished off an activation problem and is now continuing on her Brightview tasks along with Seb. Kay and Seb are both trailing a Test Driven Development approach for the first time on project work - looking good so far. Rys has been preparing his latest project for testing and working with QA on the test plan. Ben is continuing with testing of his signup hardening project. As for me, I've attended a couple of technical brainstorming workshops on reporting and radius requirements for Brightview. Also I spent some time with Phil from business support, getting to grips with how people use the systems that we create for them. In-between all that, I've been working through the four code reviews that I have. Darren in Products: hmm.. not bad, 79.. I've been going through lots of reporting requests today, I managed to finally sit down and work through some backlog. I've also been working on hardware stock movement and working to resolve some customer hardware issues. Dave's spent the day planning for his bi-weekly traffic management meeting and processing lots of usage data, he's also been kind enough to help me with a few Homephone tasks. Rich continued to work on the VoIP platform and work on supplier documentation. Martyn in Marketing (no kudos for you getting it in under 50 words): We've launched a couple of new offers today, one on Home Phone and one to raise money for Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity. Now we need to spread the word about these offers so we've been working on emails, PR and some local advertising. And here's something special to end with. Our goldfish nearly jumped out of their tanks when they caught sight of Chris from Marketing dressed up in the Madasafish ‘Lionel' suit. P-j
