@Rybenuk Report a PHONE problem via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/phone/ .It won't get picked up until tomorrow at the earliest now, but should ensure the matter is looked into.

Hi @Rybenuk
I'm really sorry for how long it's taken to get back to you. We've been quite busy recently so it's taking longer than we'd like to reply.
After testing your line this morning I've found an external fault which has been raised to our suppliers for further investigation.
As soon as we know more we'll be in touch

I managed to take a look outside and the ancient box and cabling into property makes me think the whole infrastructure of wires outside are in desperate need of updating - the logo on the box hasn't been in used since British Telecom were a thing back in 1991 I think, so I'm guessing that this thing is better part of 30 years old.....

This is still not been resolved?
Ive had less than 100kbps download speeds for a week now, essentially no internet, impossible to do any speedtests, check email - ive just managed to get into emails only to find Plusnet have been emailing me (which i wasnt receiving! - why wasnt i texted as that was how i intiiated the fault?) and said that everything is now fixed - Its clearly not!
Now that i know the line has been looked at i reset my router and Im still barely getting half of what i was getting before (still barely 6mpbs on a line that can according to my information provide 17.4 mbps which according to Openreach last year was what I should be getting considering im less than 150m from the cab)
Can someone please look into this and tell me why my speeds have dropped from what i was getting last year(over 12mbps) to struggling to getting to 6mbps now?(seems a bit convenient that my guaranteed minimums are stated at 5.9 and i`m "just" getting 6 currently) Has Plusnet now reduced thier bandwidth on Unlimited ADSL broadband down to the minimums as the estimated line speed is 8-16,which is actually what i was seeing up to the end of last year until the drops/reconnects.
if this is not resolved, i`ll be looking at cancelling my account with Plusnet as this is getting frustrating. I was actually considering upgrading to Plusnet Fibre with the current promotion as the speeds are dramatically faster, id love to have 50-69mbps with a min of over 40 - however, if its FTTC then what is the point as no doubt the local cabling wont provide that speed, considering it cant sustain even basic ADSL broadband?)
I still believe due to the constant drops in December i`ve now been throttled right down to the minimums on my connection? Again ive not seen any confirmation from you on why those disconnects happened? Can you at least confirm that frequency of the drops over that period - last time I was sent a graph type image to show all the connection drops?
Also not sure why Openreach have not come and physically taken a look at lines outside is beyond me - I`ve attached a picture to show how bad the BT equipment is at this property - can you say that this is acceptable condition, can something like this that is so old even connect to a faster Fibre network like this?

Actually after thinking about it maybe upgrading to Fiber would make more sense at this time considering the offer price of Fiber is £24 right now compared to the £22 I'm paying just now for ADSL - Rubbish Fiber would still be considerably faster than rubbish ADSL at the same price is my thinking.
However, I`m still not understanding that if my phone line from the cab cannot support more than 6mbps on ADSL just now, how can the same phone lines from the cab to the pole to the property manage to support over 8x as fast speeds on FTTC?
I would need to know if I can actually get FTTC at my address/phone number though as I`m still not sure its even available. It looks like I can based on the "Upgrade" section of my account, and on checking Openreach`s own checker but would prefer 100% confirmation from Plusnet before I go through the process of upgrading.

@Rybenuk The technology involved in FTTC is totally different to that for ADSL -One (ADSL) is copper line all the way from the exchange to your master socket, the other is fibre to the Distribution point, and only a short(ish) length of copper from there to your master socket.
To check if you can get FTTC (which you should) enter your phone number in here: https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL and post the results - you are looking for 'WBC FTTC' in the left hand column, and 'Available' further right.

Thanks John, appreciate the reply - That was my thinking: FTTC was the fiber going to the cab, then it used the same copper wire that already exists to the property. Does this mean a new copper wire is installed to the property?
These were my results, that is a handy page. Looks like FTTC is actually available which is encouraging:

Looks like you should get close to the max speeds, from that picture - I assume from your pricing comment earlier that is the 40/10 option you are gong for?
No, no new wiring is required - the change over is at the cab.

That's why I was wondering about quality of cabling from cab to property affecting Fibre speeds. If the ancient old cabling and box as per my previous picture stays the same, would that cause the connection speed from the cab to the property to be bad, even if the Fibre to the cab before is super fast? Much the same as ADSL being fast to the cab then slowing down due to poor quality local wires to properties?
As to the speed of Fibre I'd have assumed I might have got decent ADSL speeds up to the max, but as I'm not getting that, I'm taking the Fibre speeds with a pinch of salt - however my thinking is even slow Fibre will be exponentially faster than my current ADSL for similar price so its a win win.
Currently the fancy Fibre Extra option is just £23.99 which is only a few quid more than I'm paying for my current ADSL contract.
Unlimited Fibre Extra
44.6Mb minimum guaranteed speed

If after having the Fibre enabled it still fails to perform, you are within your rights to ask for further intervention, and IF it i the Distribution Point to property cabling, or cab to DP cabling which is at fault, then that should be dealt with.
Difficult to be any more precise.

That's true, I suppose I'm not losing anything by upgrading and seeing how it is.
If its an improvement (which i think it will be over current ADSL) then all good. If not, then it gets looked at/ repaired/replaced/I can cancel and move to another provider.

It is a 'suck it & see' situation, but if the infrastructure is to blame, moving providers will have no effect - it is still the same cable.

@Rybenuk have you spoken to or read the fault tickets to see what the status of your fault?
Have they reset the line?
Do you have noise on the line?
Upgrading is all very well, but it would be a lot better starting with a known good line.

👍Suppose its worth a punt either way to upgrade and see. I'm not satisficed with current speeds on ADSL anyway (whatever the reason behind the drop since November) and the cost will be pretty much the same each month via the Fibre route.
Strange that OR thought that the cabling and infrastructure was fine when here last year, considering the quality of the box and old wiring on the outside of the wall as it is, pretty shocked when i traced it back and took the picture of it. We are lucky to even have Fibre in the neck of the woods, so just have to go with what we have and see how it goes. Just frustrating as never had any real issues with my ADSL until now since moving to Plusnet 9 years ago -maybe a blessing in disguise to move over to Fibre connection.
