Drops

Normally I have a very reliable FTTC connection, that can be up for days. I've recently switched account from standard fibre to the new fibre offering. I was on a fixed 55/10 connection . I sync in the upper 70s and upload 19. Since the switch I've never had more than a few days of uptime but recently it's got to just over a day then connection drops, usually around 1 to 2 in the morning. The error given in the logs is WAN2_INTERNET_PTM disconnected.[ERROR NO CARRIER]. It syncs back up ok, and no loss of speed really. Is this something to be concerned about. Everything else works fine. I have no phone and no phone line on this new contract.

Re: Drops

Hi @penfold I can see the drops happening every other morning at around the same time.

Is there anything in the property that is happening at this time? I understand the time it's happening, but for example is there anything that is near or around the router or ONT that you have on a timer that goes off or starts at this time?

Re: Drops

Not really. Only thing is we are renovating the front room, so router is near sky box, and lots of cabling. Maybe this is the issue??? There are cables from the TV, sky box etc all over the place. I'll see how it goes once everything is back to normal. The sky box goes into ecomode at around 1.30-2.00 in the morning.

Re: Drops

Ahhhh, this could be it @penfold as the times match this as well. Is there anyway you can relocate the router for a few days to see if this still happens?

Re: Drops

@penfold  is the Sky box connected to the PN Hub using ethernet by any chance ?

Re: Drops

Yes it is. I'm not a great believer in wireless for streaming. Hub has 3 ethernet connections. Sky box, smart TV and a power line adapter. I've ne we had a problem before. Are there issues with sky q boxes and ethernet connections??. The ethernet port appears to have 2 connections on it. The q main box and q mini box. The main and mini are connected together with sky's 5ghz mesh connection.

Re: Drops

@penfold Aah! In that case, following on from what @ClaudiaG23 suggested, when it goes into Ecomode, the Sky box turns off the ethernet connection. Now in itself, you wouldn't think that was a problem BUT...

Your connection, now that its on a 80/20 profile, instead of the previous 55/10 will have a lower SNR. On the 55/10, the speed was limited by the profile and so the SNR would be >6db as there was more 'headroom'. Now on the 80/20 the speed will be limited by the SNR, which will be close to the target 6db. SNR varies over the day, usually being worst around 1 to 5am, so its very possible that at the time of the Sky box switching to Ecomode, the SNR is lower than 6db. I'm guessing that the turning off of the ethernet could cause sufficient disturbance to momentarily drop the SNR a bit. With it probably at a low level anyway, it could perhaps tip it over the edge, and cause a resynch...

Re: Drops

Good thought. Oddly enough since I moved everything around (we are renovating front room), and separated router from the vicinity of sky box and rerouted cables(DSL cable had got itself tangled in an extension cord), it's been stable. Currently stats are.....

Re: Drops

That downstream snr is a bit low, it looks like the dslam has put you on a 3db target. It won't take much to tip it over into a resynch.

@MisterW

 WAN2_INTERNET_PTM disconnected.[ERROR NO CARRIER]

This message is associated with DSL or PPP disconnects,  I suggest for completeness a full copy of the Hub's event log would be nice to look at.

@penfold

Advanced settings >Technical log > Event log. click on Export and attached the csv file using the paper clip below

Re: Drops

@penfold - It's looking stable for myside too. Have a look here @ http://visualradius.plus.net/visualradius/generated/image16952317992218.png. Let me know if you have more dropouts.

I've check FTTP availability and it says "Build planned between now and Dec-2026", lets hope it's sooner rater than  the later.

@penfold

Looking at the radius log I would hold back on posting the event log, the 1 am drops are most likely a DLM reset

Re: Drops

Thanks all. Looking at the logs, it seems DLM moved me to a 3db profile 14th sept. I will keep an eye on it. As an aside the blank parts of the radios are where I had taken the router offline for decorating purposes. @Dan_the_Van why would the DLM be resetting and what does that mean.

@penfold

DLM move, resync, reset what ever term you choose to use is what I was referring to.

Re: Drops

Still up, now over 5 days. Wonder if the drops were the DSLAM trying to reduce the target snr. To be honest I would prefer stability over speed. If it starts again is it possible to request a target snr of 6db. This only reduces the sync by around 8mbps, as far as I can see
