LAN Port Disconnecting

Trying to hardwire my sons Xbox to the router via Ethernet cable. Xbox connects but then after a few minutes the port drops and then reconnects which kicks him out his online games. Iv tried all ports on the router, multiple Ethernet cables, replaced the hub 2 router for a new one I’m now lost as to why! Nothing wrong with the Xbox as connection stays stable when I take it to my parents house and plug in! Help!!

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

A much more perinate question is why is the port switching speed!!

Is the Xbox connected direct to the port or is there another device in between, such as an ethernet switch or Ethernet over power adapters?

Have you tried a different cable?

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Also, what model Xbox are we talking? With a capable cable an XBox One+ should do gigabit.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Yes connected directly nothing in between. Iv tried 3 brand new Ethernet cables and no joy still getting the same. I have my cctv plugged via Ethernet too but that stays constant. Iv tried unplugging the cctv and just having the Xbox plugged in too.
It’s an Xbox one s model
I have reset the router to factory settings and the Xbox too.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Iv tried the below cables brand new.
UGREEN Cat 7 Ethernet Cable High-Speed Flat Gigabit RJ45 LAN Patch Cord with 10Gbps 600Mhz/s FTP POE Compatible with Internet, Router, Modem, Smart TV, PC & Laptop PS5 PS4 Switch Modem

And

rhinocables CAT6 High-Speed Gigabit Ethernet Patch Network Cable for LAN — Shielded, Snagless Booted Cable with RJ45 Connector Lead for Internet, Router, Modem, Smart TV, PC & Laptop

Also had a brand new hub 2 router sent and wired that in.
None of the cables run along side any power cables etc. only thing I have not tried is reusing my hub 1 box which I will try this weekend. Iv also tried just the Xbox before connecting any of the wireless devices again to it. Plusnet has given me nothing but problems for years 🤦🏽‍♀️

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

That level of comprehensive actions to eliminate the issue with cables and router would point to the Xbox being faulty. Something is causing the router to change the port speed … and it takes two to tango.

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

I have found in the past that with booted cables the plug sometimes do not fully seat into the socket because the boot prevents the plug to go fully home.

@Sheppy127

Having tried different ethernet cables, have you tried a different port on the router?

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

That was my thoughts too - iv done a process of elimination with everything! Iv taken the Xbox to my parents house and plugged it in to there router via ethernet and the connection has not dropped or changed at all.. so it cannot be the xbox surely.

Iv made sure all wires are connected completely too - i honestly dont know what else i can possibly try other than going back to the hub 1 but i cannot remember why they said i needed the hub 2 recently.

Plusnet support cannot suggest anything else either - ready to hoof it all out the window! 🤣

@Townman

Sorry, I missed that bit!

Also, "That level of comprehensive actions to eliminate the issue with cables and router would point to the Xbox being faulty. Something is causing the router to change the port speed … and it takes two to tango. "

In their OP, @Sheppy127 said that it works OK at their parent's house?

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

Oh yes, incase there was a problem with the ports on the first router but seems not!

I will try the hub 1 this evening to eliminate that too

Re: LAN PORT DISCONNECTING

You might care to poke the internet for this issue - seems others have encountered similar ... but not found a solution - see Is The Xbox One Gigabit Port Artificially Rate Limited? - Microsoft Community

Part way down there is a suggestion to check out the speed on the Xbox port.

You reference test for the Xbox elsewhere does not eliminate the possibility of a slow LAN connection.  As @bobpullen hints, why is this not running at 1Gbps?

The router log grab was a helpful move.  Look for similar on the Hub One.  Do you have any other routers to try?

Are there any other devices connected to the router?
