Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

@redsox9 As said previously - Openreach need to eliminate the cause of those ridiculous SNR figures.

Just out of interest, are you plugged into the test socket, or the front plate of your master socket?

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

OK. Just because I know this will be one of the 'suggestions' - plug it into the test socket - it won't  resolve the issue, but at least you'll be able to say 'it is already there'! 😀

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

@willcutforth
and mates
Today my download speed has dropped to 4mbps with a noise margin of 31. Is it DLM or a line fault that needs the attention of Overreach sorry Openreach?
Attached are the latest stats.

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

@redsox9 It is a line fault which needs sorting by OR - and don't believe anything else that you are 'told'.

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

Reported the slow speed and opened new fault ticket 239063632.  First thing I was asked to do was run the BT performance test and send in the results. The fault app kept rejecting the BT report claiming it had a virus!  So I typed in the results in a message. Now waiting to hear further.

@willcutforth
I tried to send the BT test results to the Faults team earlier but their virus scanner kept rejecting it. I summarised the results in a message to the team. The latest BT test results are attached. Please onpass to the Faults squad.

It gets worse - if they say there is nothing wrong with that, there is only one reply - which I won't post here, as it would get me banned.

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

My broadband speed is still less than a quarter of what it was before my disconnections which made me raise a fault on 11 December. From what I have learned on this thread, the fault did not result in an investigation but a modify order to raise my SNR and reduce my speed. Ever helpful Will Stutford admitted that there was something strange going on and tried to lower my SNR. But while my connection is stable, the download speed is still 3mbps with a noise margin of 31. The obvious question: is someone trying to nudge me to upgrade to full fibre after 13 years with Plusnet on ADSL2?
But should I even be thinking this? It's Christmas!

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

@redsox9 If a staff member doesn't pick this up this morning and arrange a proper engineer investigation, I suggest your raise an official complaint - link at the foot of every page.

It is blindingly obvious you have a major external issue!

PS - I probably won't see any replies today - I'm travelling.

Fix

Hi @redsox9

I'm sorry to hear your speeds still aren't sorted.

My tests are showing an external fault known as an unbalanced cable which backs up what @jab1 has said above.

I've raised this to our suppliers for you and we'll be in touch as soon as we know more

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role

Re: Lingering problems: copper cop-out?

The external fault was repaired around midday and my broadband is back up to speed.
@MatthewWheeler
Thanks for correctly identifying the problem. Curious to know if the testing equipment you used to detect the unbalanced cable is available to the rest of the help team.
