Moving house :Plusnet speed offer is much slower than BT and others

Im a long time Plusnet customer, Moved temporarily 6 months ago and went onto Fibre (FTTC) and get a good 65mb. When I signed up, Plusnet said we can move the account when we finally move to new house.

We are getting ready to move to new home. It has two BT lines coming in (it has a granny annex where I will live)     My son has signed up with BT for the main house. They are saying 66-73 (60 guaranteed)  on that line. (No FTTP unfortunately)

When I check my postcode/line on Plusnet its HALF BT's SPEED

Any explanations on this, as its the same backhaul and distances?

That's to the main house and what my Son has signed up to. Telegraph pole directly outside house. Two separate BT lines coming from it to positions 2M apart. BT cabinet about 20M down the road

Ah, it's all becoming clear. Your son has signed up for the BT equivalent of PN's 'Unlimited Fibre Extra', you are looking at the basic/very slightly cheaper 'Unlimited Fibre'.

are you sure? I would expect the upload speed nearer to 10Mbps if the line supports Fibre Extra speeds.

@Dan_the_Van Yes I am - note the price on the OPs PN screenshot above. I also  would expect an upload closer to 10Mb/s, but I'm guessing this is PN being 'conservative'.

EDIT: to be honest IF their Fibre cab is only 20m from the property, they should both be getting near to the maximum speeds -  my copper length is around 400m, and I'm getting a consistent 36/9 in speed tests.

Something looks a bit odd.

Can you find the properties UPRN using this link https://www.findmyaddress.co.uk/search 

and then enter it on this link https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL 

Post the results here of the BT Wholesale search, best redact the UPRN number as it the address of your property.

@FirefishHR That looks suspiciously like a BT/OR data error. If your son can get the higher speeds, from exactly the same fibre cab, there is no reason on earth why you shouldn't be able to as well.

@FirefishHR   to get a more accurate picture of the differences are, if you do the same thing again with the DSL checker, but use the phone numbers, and include the exchange and cabinet number - obscure the number though - it may be that they are fed from different cabinets - certainly that one is more than 20 yards away.

Different cabs - on the same pole, @Mustrum ? I would find that very strange.

Thats what I thought.   Maybe BT (Taking my son's order)  have got it wrong?   Mind you they have guaranteed that speed 🙂

I know they work to cautious minimum speeds and thats all they can work to... 

But a family member moved to a location in Kent. The person moving out had BT and good speeds 66/18   (and screenshots to prove it)   Then when they moved in and used Plusnet they only got 30/8 ..   Mad because its the same infrastructure and hub
