Have you tried an Ethernet connection to the laptop? The fact that your phone still gets good speeds points very strongly to a fault with that machine.

@daviddoc sounds like the laptop is sometimes connecting to the 2.4ghz band rather than the 5ghz one.
Make sure that the wifi adapter is set to 'Prefer 5ghz'

Assuming that you have a Plusnet Hub Two router, it has two WiFi bands - 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
5GHz has a shorter range but provides better bandwidth and therefore much faster speeds.
2.4GHz has longer range, but slower speeds (and 50Mb isn't unusual).
Your laptop is probably switching between those bands depending on the WiFi signal strength, resulting in different speeds.
Check your laptop's WiFi connection status to see which band you are connected to.
Find in your laptop's WiFi adaptor settings, whether you can disable automatic band selection, and always choose 5GHz ?.
Alternatively, you could switch OFF the 2.4GHz band in the Plusnet Hub Two, so EVERYTHING always connects at 5GHz.
Watch this video - YouTube : Changing your Hub Two wireless settings
then at time = 1:20 you should see the web page shown below,
then toggle the 2.4GHz wireless to OFF, then hit the [Save] button.

Which router do you have? What technology are you on FTTC or FTTP?

@outcast No need for sarcasm, I'm not in the mood for dealing with it today. As a point of interest, I assumed the OP was on FTTP, given those reported speeds, but as they said later 'it's even worse when plugged into router' - message #5 - we may be going down a blind alley - as we all know, n Ethernet connection should give the 'paid for' speeds, unless there is something wrong with the users kit/set up.

OK - try turning off the 204Ghz band as advised earlier, and see what happens.

"Get 200/250 on mobile but only 50 on laptop."
To clarify, when you are testing these speeds, are the mobile and laptop next to each other in the same part of your home, relative to the router?
