Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

My broadband speed has never been perfect because of where I live but it has managed to keep up with everything such as PV, laptop, Ring cam, TV. However these last few days everything has gone really slow yet my speeds are the same at around 15 download and .65 upload, done using an app on iphone. Netflix and Prime are the worst hit, sometimes not able to watch at all. I have rebooted the modem and done all the other stuff suggested but to no avail. Nothing has changed to cause this that I know of. Can anyone help? ps The BTwholesale speed test wouldn`t work, maybe it`s a clue this is their message...

Summary Advanced Test

The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider.

The ping test it did is 1325ms

Re: Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

@destiny234 Looking at those speed results, I am assuming you are on an ADSL, rather than FTTC? The ping figure you report certainly wo't help either - it is unacceptably high.

Unless you've done the Googling - here is an explanation: https://www.bandwidthplace.com/ping-test

Basically, something somewhere is slowing things down.

Re: Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

Thanks John,

totally different readings with the one you sent, Down is 2.65, up .74, and ping 177.

I am on a page that sells vpns and am looking at one that is only £1.64 a month. I just asked them some questions as I haven`t got a scooby.

Cheers,

Linda

Re: Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

Linda - don't even go down the VPN route  - that will have no effect on your current issue.

If you answer these questions, I, or another Community member may be able to offer advice: which service (ADSL or FTTC) are you on, which router do you have, and (don't take offence 😉 ), how much do you know about computers/the internet?

Re: Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

John,

ADSL I think, it plugs into the phone line. There is no option for fibre up here near John O Groats.

The router is just a plusnet one, it doesn`t say which model.

I think I know a little more than the average 66 year old on stuff , but this ping side of things has me stumped.

No offence taken 🙂

Re: Speed Ok ish but everything has slowed down

OK. In an attempt to kill  more than one bird with a stone, can you please supply the information requested below. I suspect, but can't be 100% certain that you will have a Hub1.

For Community members to be able to help, information from these sites, as screenshots, posted as pictures within the topic, not as attachments:-

BT Broadband Availability Checker (obscuring your phone number), where a landline phone is no longer supplied or known use the address version BT Broadband Address Availability (obscuring your address)

BTW Performance Tester - Over a wired (Ethernet) connection if at all possible, please report the 'ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTICS'. This test is recommended to be performed with only one device connected.

Sight of the broadband connection status from your Hub (with the 'Username' obscured) would also be of help.

For the Hub One -

Navigate from the Home Screen to Troubleshooting > Helpdesk

For the Hub Two -

Navigate from the Home Screen to Advanced Settings > Technical Log > Information

Where the phone line is still active, it may also be a good idea to report the results of a Quiet Line Test - dial 17070 option 2 from a (preferably corded) phone. After the confirmation of your phone number, there should be total silence apart from the regular 'Quiet Line Test' announcement. Any other noise - report a PHONE fault first.

If you are unsure about any of the above, please just ask - I am happy to help.

Unfortunately, I'm away from tomorrow, so won't be visiting the forum - at least for most of the time before about 7PM, but others may jump in

BTW - I'm older than you. 😀

OK - just use the HUb2 instructions then - that fact may come in useful later, but makes me think you are on FTTC, but a very long 'final mile' of copper.

Can't see them, Linda. If you are using a desktop/laptop, use the 'mountain' icon above the reply window.
