Speed dropped over last few months

Hi, my max connection rate has been set at 34998kbps for the last three months. As recently as June it was 54998 or 49998. My minimum speed used to be 36mb, but now I only get 31 or 32mb downloads.

Is a line reset possible?

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

@MartinConnolly Looking at that data, you have an extremely high SNR, which could indicate a problem.  If you still have a phone-line, I suggest you check there isn't a problem on the voice circuit - dial 17070, select option 2. The line should be totally silent after the confirmation of your number except for the regular 'Quiet Line Test' message - any other noise, report a PHONE problem.

If the line is silent, a reset may resolve your problem, so long as there isn't still a problem on the VDSL side, although looking at your uptime, I suspect you may need an OpenReach investigation.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

@jab1 l'll do the quiet line test this evening and let you know. The uptime is a bit of a red herring as I rebooted the router (in case it cleared the wrong location error I also posted about). I can post the full event log back to 1st Feb this year if that helps?

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

Does the BT Hub have an 'export' function? It would be good to see the log in .csv format, as we can then select various criteria.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

It doesn't have an export function, but I could select the WAN events and get them into a spreadsheet.

I can't seem to add an attachment (something to do with Android?) so here's a link to the file on my Google Drive

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

Unfortunately, that only opens to show column 'A' - which is of no use.

Hmm ok. I'll see what I can do with it.

OK, found it. The export function is labelled 'save'.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

Thanks, @MartinConnolly - at a quick glance, your DSL link seems to maintain for a long time, so, although I would not be too happy about losing it quite as often, I doubt a complaint would get much attention these days.

I'll give it another longer look later tonight/early tomorrow morning as I have other things to do at the moment, and see if I can offer any insight.

EDIT: Have you had chance to check the phone, or have I missed it?

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

No, @jab1 I haven't had a chance to do the phone test yet, sorry. It's not the connection dropping that's the issue, it's the lower speed than I used to get. It was consistently 40-45mb download for ages then it's dropped down to 32mb. Thanks for looking into it anyway

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

@MartinConnolly  - just looking at the last entry after a drop on there, it is reporting an 'up' connection speed of 7237kbps - but no down speed.

Any chance of posting the result of a test from https://www.speedtest.net/ , please?

@jab1 here you go:

I did the quiet line test. I'd say there was a very faint background hum and one or two crackles.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

That speed test is informative - thanks. The ping and jitter times are a little high, but not super-excessive, but noise on the line should not be there - at all, on a QLT.

I suggest you report a phone issue via https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/ , and  keep us informed of responses.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

Hi @jab1 shortly after your message, the speed miraculously increased to a connection speed of 54998kb! It settled to mid 40s after a while and stayed there for nearly 2 months. But a spate of power cuts (due to work by the electricity network, and then Storm Darragh) has seen it drop again to a new low of 33478. Is there any way to get the connection reset? Thanks.

Re: Speed dropped over last few months

@MartinConnolly If the work has completed, try ringing PN and asking them to reset your connection.
