Re: 20Mb on Value

Win 7 calculates it's own MTU
You could try this test http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
Also have a read here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/tweak2.htm

Re: 20Mb on Value

On XP I suggest trying RWIN values of 150000 and 200000 (set using DrTCP). The value shown in the DrTCP screenshot is far too small and could well reduce download speed by 25% or more.

Re: 20Mb on Value

Re: 20Mb on Value

@pierre_pierre How's your performance doing now?
I've currently got my highest syc speed of 9300kbps.
According to BT speedtester my IP profile is 7150kbps but Plusnet still have it at 6500kbps.
Overall moving to 21CN 20Mb has given me a slight speed increase and seems reasonably stable.

HI,
After loads of problems with CS I have finally thanks to Matt Taylor been switched over to ADSL2+ today, stats on ADSL1 were:-
Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 38.0 db 20.0 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 20.0 db
And now on ADSL2+ are :-
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8677 kbps 888 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.5 db 20.6 db
Noise Margin 6.1 db 12.5 db
I was given an estimated download speed of >13kbps, is there any improvement during the 10 day training period or is the best I can expect with these stats.

Based on your attenuation I don't think you'll see much downstream improvement as you have uncapped upstream.
I have similar attenuation figures, but capped upstream, and we seem to be on the point where there's a slight, but useful, benefit from the switch.
I think you have got your Ms & Ks confused as one hopes they quoted you more than 13kbps  Wink

Oops slight typo Roll_eyes
I will see how it goes over the next few days, I may ask them to cap the upstream, it is a slight improvement though I was hoping for a bit more.

Re: 20Mb on Value

I was basing my comments on my own stats after a couple of weeks.
These currently are
Quote
DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 450 / 9,302
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.5 / 20.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 23.0 / 39.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 5.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC

My stats were similar to yours prior to switch with marginally higher attenuation

Unfortunately my Plusnet IP profile seems to be stuck at 6500kbps and is below BT profile  Cry
Need someone to give it a kick.

Re: 20Mb on Value

@nadger
I've bumped you from 6500 to 7150 to match the exchange, you can expect a connection drop in the next two hours or so to apply the new profile Smiley

Re: 20Mb on Value

Thanks Ben
Went though without connection drop  Smiley
Been synced at 9300kbps for a couple of days so be interesting to see if BT up profile to 8000kbps which I believe is the next step. As SNR is only 4.5dB sync may well drop back a bit.
Overall I have improvement over 20CN so been worthwhile  Smiley
Edit. Spoke too soon - just had reconnection and now synced at 9912 with 3.5dB SNR

Re: 20Mb on Value

I applied for an upgrade and got a message back saying the order had been placed. Followed almost immediately by another one saying:
There's been a problem progressing your broadband order.
We'll get some more information on the problem and update this ticket with details as soon as we have them.
[internal note]
Order has been cancelled. Please check Install Diary and resubmit order once issue is resolved.

What's going on?  Sad

Re: 20Mb on Value

It's probably BT Wholesale's order system having one of its frequent sulks and rejecting submitted orders even when there is nothing wrong with them. A member of Plusnet's provisioning team should pick this up and resubmit it - no action needed from you.
