Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

Same here on the router - still have my tg582 in its box as a backup if really needed.
But I would imagine part of the trial will be testing the various customer setups and if needed basic configuration information will be provided, even if it is not officially supported (as for the normal broadband service).

If they want to charge extra for some rubbish football channels, Plusnet won't want any old router picking up their broadcasts.

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

Why would that make any difference?  I assume the service is linked either to the line or the viewing box so other than for support purposes I doubt they care what router is being used.

Not all routers work with or support multicast/IGMP proxy. There is a list on the Infinity forums of which ones are proven to work etc - https://community.bt.com/t5/YouView-box/Known-Routers-to-Work-with-Multicast-IGMP/td-p/994338

Re: Get your names in quick - YouView Trials

Here is my understanding of the issues with 3rd party routers. Most routers support multicast and IGMP, the one thing that a lot of home routers don't support is 802.11Q on the WAN port which is required for BT's multicasting. The router must be able to accept traffic on a specific VLAN on the WAN port in order to receive the multicast channels.
There is a sticky on the BT forums for which routers do and don't work.

Define "third party router". Plusnet has supplied a number of routers; I have two supplied by Plusnet for FTTC, neither of which is a TG582n.

Hi,
Any idea when those chosen for the trial are likely to be notified?
Thanks.
