I hope you were not so silly as to put it in another socket, run an immediate test and assume it hadn't changed anything (it can take a day or so for the effects of changes to become apparent).

Jelv, I'm an end user, not an IT technician. I just joined this forum yesterday so am not hip on jargon or how people get around speed issues. I don't know anything about sockets, and I shouldn't have to. My internet has come to a crawl and I don't know why. I assumed the suggestion of trying a new socket meant that the one I was using had become faulty, I have no idea what changes would occur by using a new one or how long they would take to come into affect.

We're also having issues with our speed. We switched to PlusNet at the beginning of January. Our speed supposed to be between 10MB/s and 20MB/s. Usually around peak time it's around 6/7MB/s (which isn't very good, considering we were promised speeds of at least 10MB/S. Off peak speeds to jump up quite a bit. However, we've recently had much slower speeds the past few days.
We're on a ptw gateway, if that helps.
Is there anything we can do, or should we just wait and hope for a fix soon as possible?

I read that message just before posting. Are the CS team still collecting information from this thread?
I'm not too keen on phoning right now, as it always takes more than 30 minutes to get through to someone.

I'm afraid it's just a case of sitting tight unless you feel that your particular issue is not due to the peak time issues, in which case it's better to raise a ticket.

As far as we know they are collating all the information. See the first post in this thread for the sort of information they would like.
You can check Which Gateway you are on with that link. You could also run the Diagnostic Test at the BT Wholesale SpeedTester. Ignore the red pre-amble except make sure nothing else is using the Internet, and after the first result, Click Further Diagnostics at the bottom of the page, enter your phone number and run the test.
Just copy and paste the result - no need to capture the image.
Edit: If Plusnet staff are monitoring this tonight and want you to stay put whilst they check your connection through the network before you Gateway hop, I'm sure they will post. If you don't know how to Gateway hop, post back.

I've read a few pages of the thread, and checked recommended links/tools for my connection. My BT Speed tests have been lower than what I should be getting.

For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 19.58 Mbps
One of the posts in the thread suggested only changing gateway, if the one you're one started with a specific string. I can't remember which, but since mine is different, I wasn't sure I should switch it.
Do you recommend changing it, anyway?
I've done it in the past for another ISP, so I'm assuming it's a similar process; just changing it under the router settings page?
If many people are experiencing the issue, and haven't had any luck sorting it out, then I'm guessing it's very unlikely I would be able to, either. It was just the first time having PlusNet that we've had poor service for a number of days running. It was a regular thing with our old ISP, so we were used to it.

If you check what Gateway you are on using the link provided in my previous post and run some of the tests as per the other links and post them here before doing a Gateway hop. (The red underlined text are links).
To do so, yes, log into the modem/router - see here for advice, Click Disconnect in the Internet box, wait 30 seconds and then Click Connect.

Might have spoken too soon. The whitebox reports website access at 2.3 secs up from a usual 0.2 sec. In fact this week that statistic has only peaked at 0.5 sec even during the congested periods. So my throughput is better but access time is worse.
