Re: Unlimited/Essentials product launch December 2012

I'm on Plusnet Extra Fibre and to be honest don't intend to upgrade to Unlimited yet, as I don't get anywhere near my allowance.  However I'm curious as to how PN have managed to provide a truly unlimited package. I thought "unlimited" was impossible.
If this isn't the place for this question, I apologise, but I'm really interested to know.

Re: Unlimited/Essentials product launch December 2012

I would say that they have managed to provide an "unlimited" package precisely because there are people like you (and me) who never got anywhere near their allowance and these people are still by far the majority. If everybody signed up for unlimited and downloaded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the system would obviously not cope. Plusnet knows that will not happen and knows the likely usage it will actually have to cope with, add 50% (or whatever) for contingency and they are safe in the knowledge that they can advertise an unlimited product. If the actual usage gets anywhere near the expected usage they just add more bandwidth.

Or people like me who went to Extra because our usage went up to circa 15GB and then to unlimited because it was cheaper.
The big difference to unlimited now is that virtually all the larger ISP's are offering it and with long minimum contracts so Plusnet are unlikely to get a surge of "I download the internet every day" users

I have switched to Unlimited  through the Members Center > Product Change - while i followed all the product change steps, is there any kind of notification in Members Center or anywhere that says if the product change has been successful - there is noting in Connection Settings > Order Tracker relating to a new product change?

Re: Unlimited/Essentials product launch December 2012

Hi,
I'm still on the old Broadband Plus up to 8mb package and would like to move to Unlimited. I have a couple of question though:
1. I currently get approx 3.5mb as a download speed but noticed that the new Unlimited has an estimated 2mb estimated speed. Does this mean that I'll get a speed drop or is it likely that things will carry on as normal. I take it that the 'up to 8mb' thing has vanished for good after people were complaining so much about being far short of that.
2. I'm paying 15.99 per month. Will my payment reduce automatically to 12.49 when I switch to Unlimited (no contract) or do I have to ask for that to happen?
I'm a tad scared to change as we've enjoyed a very long period of fault-free access with PN. I've even nearly forgotten about all the hoops we had to jump though when our connection dropped to a really slow some years back. After several weeks it turned out to be a hardware issue with PN. I wasn't happy then but I'm over it now. Mostly.  Wink
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Estimated page showed a similar drop for me when I changed to unlimited but in reality things carried on as normal.
The only sign that the change had occurred for me was a brief drop of the internet connection. DSL stayed connected so there was absolutely no change in the connection speed.

1. Your speed will remain the same.
2.Your payment will automatically be applied on your next billing date.

Just put in my request to switch.
I assume I'll keep my static IP block of 4
I assume I'll need to re-request Max Premier as I did last time I switched product.

Anyone care to answer these?  Undecided

Re: Unlimited/Essentials product launch December 2012

Though this relates to one IP rather than a block the FAQ item I have a static IP address, will I keep this if I request an account change? suggests the block will be retained though the IPs themselves might need to be changed.
As far as I'm aware it hasn't been stated whether Max Premium is automatically removed when the account changes.

Avatastic:  If I were you, I'd coordinate your move with Bob P or Dave T just in case.  We've has some examples of problems with IPs on moving over.  It SHOULD be fine... but... lets make sure.

Yep, that's what it says if you are on unlimited. This has been reported previously on here.
