Emails to plus.net rejected with "552 Spam Message Rejected"

Hi, I am a plusnet customer, but am actually posting this from the point of view of someone trying to send to plus net email addresses. My company sells tickets online, and we send out confirmation emails, with an attached link to a printable voucher. These are being bounced back from plus.net with the above error. But there is no explanation as to what makes the message look like spam.

I have noticed a couple of similar enquiries here over the years, but they were fixed privately by plus.net employees as far as I can make out. So I am none the wiser as to what I need to do here.

This is a relatively new email server (only setup before christmas, we were relaying via PostMark before) and I have verified that it has correct forward and reverse DNS entries, and that we have SPF records setup properly to indicate the allowed machines. I have this terminated with '-all', and am reluctant to change this to '~all' (though am prepared to do so if this is an SPF problem).

I realise theres almost no information here, but perhaps someoen could point me to the right place within plus.net to get this fixed ? I am not going to put customer data on a public forum such as this, but am happy to share it with plus.net support staff.

thanks,

-Pete French.

Re: Emails to plus.net rejected with "552 Spam Message Rejected"

Hi Pete,

A warm welcome to the forums.  This is the best place for your enquiry, you will just need to wait for a staff member to engage here.  Usually @bobpullen picks up these types of inter-business issues.

Do the NDR mail message headers indicate the reason for the spam profiling?  Specifically is there a SPF failure flag?

Is the issue persistent for @*.plus.com addressees or intermittent?

I have recently received reports of spam rejection sent to my Plusnet mail box from someone whose email provider uses "-all", but that was just a single incident amongst dozens of emails from them.

If the issue is persistent and you can modify the SPF record to "~all" ... and that then works, it would give you / Plusnet something to focus on.  have you checked the message headers to verify that the SMTP from IP address is in the SPF constraint?

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

@-bat - if you can private message me the full source & body of one of these emails that was successfully received to a non-Plusnet address then I should be able to look into it for you.

Alternatively you can save said email as a file and upload it somewhere for me to retrieve.

Re: Emails to plus.net rejected with "552 Spam Message Rejected"

Someone who has previously emailed successfully to my wife's plusnet email account is now having emails rejected with the 552 Spam message. This happens whether the emails are just to her or to a group of other people - all the others receive the email and can forward it to my wife. The rejected emails do not contain any links or attachments. The sender uses a gmail account, but other gmail accounts can send to my wife's account without any problem. Advice welcomed - thanks

@AL53 - advice is the same as that I gave here.

In your case, it sounds it's unlikely to be due to the content of the message - however I very much doubt we're carte blanche rejecting messages from GMail's servers Huh
