Hi everyone,
I have recently moved my parents into a retirement home and thought i'd managed to access their email account directly on the server but it turns out to be a plusnet account and not the Force9 account they were using. As I live in France and my brother lives 4 hours away from their home it's impossible to "pop" back to check on their emails using their computer. I have so far failed to find any details on how to access a Force9 adress so any help would be very much appreciated :-)!

Sorry, ignore. I didn't read properly! When you log-in, leave it as Plusnet but use the name@freenetname.co.uk format. Just double-checked mine and it works.

Not sure if you're looking for help on force9 or freenetname.
I'm checked my force9 email using plusnet webmail. Username & password are account details, server drop down to whichever.............

So, having re-read the OP again, there's no reference to FNN, only F9. My original reply was therefore correct.

So if I understand correctly I use the username that comes between the @ and the .force9.co.uk, the appropriate password and choose Force9 on the dropdown menu. If so, neither of the passwords my father gave me are correct and he has absolutely no idea what else I could try. Understandable when you're 98! In that case I'll just have to try customer services and see if they can help, my brother does have a power of attorney but it's a bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut as I suspect there are few if any emails there.

Do they still have a broadband account with Plusnet? If not, how long ago was that cancelled?
Up to a while ago (a couple of years maybe) when cancelling you had the option of keeping email accounts (either free or paid for depending on when it was). Since then, if you cancel your broadband you would lose the email accounts as well.
I just thought it worth checking if that was why you couldn't access it. I see you said you'd recently moved them into a retirement home, so if the account was cancelled then, then it might have gone.
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

No the broadband account is still active, they only move a couple of weeks ago. I think it is simply a case of not knowing the correct password. Someone will be visiting the house in early July so they can do a standard "change the password" so that we know what the new one is. It would just have been useful to make sure we're not missing anything important in the meantime. Once again, thanks for your help :-).

No problem. I just wanted to make sure we weren't trying to chase something that no longer exists. Good luck getting access. Others will be more knowledgeable than me on how to sort it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here chaps ?, but I don't think that actually being at the house will make any difference to the ability to change the password. Doesn't changing the password require either access to the account (which implies knowing the password) or access to the email to request a password change ?
The other possible method of calling CSC and requesting they change it will still require knowledge of the account password and can be done from anywhere

Yes, but the difference is that his computer is still in the house, with Thunderbird all set up to receive his emails ie the password is there. So my thinking was that by going into his account I could request a new password which would then be confirmed by clicking on the link sent by the system. Or by contacting customer services who could send a link. The difference is having access to the emails received and for that someone has to be in situ with access to the computer... I have the password to access his PlusNet account (which also has an associated plusnet.co.uk email adress but which has never been used).
