Using eM Client on PC. Every time client tries to get emails window pops up with :
Password required for ....
Server says "internal server error"
This happened in March and was fixed but is now happening again. Webmail portal using firefox works okay.
eM Client and GMail works fine.
Please do not mess with an email system that worked fine!!!

Is that a POP3 client?

free-online is a pop3.
GMail is IMAP.
eM Client has worked with free-online for many years as pop3 using host : mail.free-online.net

Further information on this is that my son can get his emails via the webmail portal but it now does not sync up to GMail.
Also now tried setting up emails with outlook and that will not accept my free-online email.
Even worse the Question that the Plusnet team put on their site was automatically closed only 20 hours after they got me to send details of my client settings. Do they give up before even 24 hours have gone?!?!?!?!
Not a good service!.

em Client POP3 or IMAP does not work with free-online!!
Plusnet do not help just direct you to the setup and it is their issue.
Place question on account but can't respond to it. - useless.
Also, Outlook and POP3 for free-online does not work.
Managed to get IMAP to work so obviously POP3 issue with their server but they are not interested.

Can you please provide evidence of IMAP not working, the version of eM Client, your platform version and the precise error message.
eM Client POP3 has been proved to work on some environments, but not others. IMAP not working has not not been reproduced.
Use the following POWERSHELL / DOS Prompt command with your userID:password substituted and advise of the status at the end.
curl.exe -v imaps://imap.free-online.net -u "userID:password"

FWIW I have just configured an IMAP eM Client on Win11 and it works without difficulty.
As configured, it has an IMAP client and a POP3 client configured against the same mailbox. On Win11 and Win10 the POP3 does not work, but it does work on macOS. I do not have access to a Linux environment to do a similar test.

Update: A mitigation for the eM Client (in POP3 mode) failure has been implemented and verified. That should stop the eM Client's deviant behaviour preventing POP3 access to the mailbox.
