Freenetname emails not sending

Can anyone explain in PLAIN English, how to set up server connections so that I can send emails through Samsung Mail on android without getting failed sends?
Thankyou.

Try again as was set up.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

Hi, Freenetname emails not sending since yesterday.... keeps asking me for username/password (in a loop).

Have tried resetting my router (which is via a Vodafone dongle card), changing port number all to no avail.

I can log in online to my account via Plusnet webmail.

This happens every couple of years or so - not sure how far boards go back to see messages/solutions.

Any help gratefully received.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

There were a series of problems until around 9am today, when mitigation for the issues was put in place.

Server settings (and test diagnostics) as as below...

Brand: Freenetname
Preferred userID: Email Address
Encryption supported: No

  • IMAP: mail.freenetname.co.uk port: 143
  • POP3: mail.freenetname.co.uk port: 110
  • SMTP: smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk port: 587
curl.exe -v imap://mail.freenetname.co.uk -u userID
curl.exe -v pop3://mail.freenetname.co.uk -u userID
curl.exe -v smtp://smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk:587 -u userID

The above cURL commands can be pasted into a Terminal (POWERSHELL) window, replacing userID with your email address.  When prompted, type your password and press enter - note it is not echoed back to the console.

DO NOT post the full details of the output here which might contain your credentials in either  / both plain and encrypted text, the latter being easily decypted.

The end of the output will indicate success or failure and why.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

This worked for me - I don't seem to have a green button (but that is for another day!) - thanks!

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

@fairmaiden thank you - the green button only appears for the topic owner - in this case @SneakyPete

@SneakyPete - you should only run the cURL command, not the whole of the configuration detail.  Further in your environment the console appears to be treating the next command as the password for the one prior.  Try pasting one line at a time.

What environment are you running these in?

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

TBH I'm working above my pay grade in Termux (Terminal not available on my Samsung).
Copy/paste is flaky and not helping.

A little tedious to type, but at least you are in control.

Re: Freenetname emails not sending

Probably case sensitive should be all lower case - alternatively curl needs to be installed if not available.  Android is so alien!!

Also if you can be quick, redact your personal details from the above post.

PS: Also on Android .exe might not be required.  The commands I pasted were the windows versions.
