Re: SMTP problems??

Sorry - I was not clear. On your 'home' email client, the one on your computer/laptop, is the address authenticated? Which email client would that be?

Re: SMTP problems??

Not sure what you mean by “home”. I only use Apple laptop and phone and both have same settings.

Re: SMTP problems??

OK. I don't use my Plusnet email on my iPad or phone, but I suspect somewhere in the settings on your mail client there will be an option to access/modify the outgoing (SMTP) server details. What are these set to?

Re: SMTP problems??

The server setting are set to

Port 25
Server Smtp.metronet.co.uk
Username
Password authentication
with my password added

These are the only available settings to toggle.

Re: SMTP problems??

OK. Sorry, but having looked at the settings available on the iPad Mail app, I am at a loss. You need help from someone who uses it for 'foreign' accounts. I only use the default iCloud one.

Re: SMTP problems??

Thanks. The odd thing is it will send when in a WiFi but not on mobile data.

Re: SMTP problems??

Looks like I am now getting timeouts from smtp.metronet.co.uk on port 25

Re: SMTP problems??

If you are on-network (home WiFi) then authentication is not essential, though desirable.

When on mobile or a third party WiFi service authentication is mandatory.

On the iPhone (iPad should be the same) the SMTP server details should be smtp.metronet.co.uk, user name - your email address, which the account password,  SSL off, Authentication PASSWORD, with port 25 (rather than the correct port of 587 which has been reported not to work, but has not been confirmed by Plusnet).

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

When connected to your home network, or when connected to any Wi-Fi network?

@Townman Thanks - looks like @Dmorley is set correctly, but I'm not sure.

Wonder if that is a different issue?

Re: SMTP problems??

Hmm it’s working again! But only on wifi. Using cellular seems to generate the timeout but only after switching back to wifi! Bizzarley then the email is sent anyway.

I have also experienced this issue not being able to send emails from my metronet account using a cellular connection before these issues arose so it seems the behaviour remains consistent if not particularly useful.
